Purple Cactus
How do you think loading onto a server and hopping between mission portals will be compared to GTA V? I don't know, maybe it is just me but it felt so damn slow at times. I am not sure if that was sped up over the years, I kind of stopped playing online after the first year or so. Lonestar
Yes GTA Online is slow at times, but I think that's because the online game is peer to peer (no central servers). I am pretty sure (hope) that for Red Dead Redemption 2, they choose to use central servers.
Looney Dan
I'm not worried. That was 2013. They have had plenty of time and advances in the last 4 years to greatly improve it. Even if it ends up being bigger (the online world), the newer consoles and servers will do just fine.
DaveSpeek
I wasn't bothered by it myself honestly. Like it was slow in the beginning but it did get patched a bit and sped up. Sometimes it sucked (waiting 5+ minutes to get on a server) but most of the time I wasn't bothered. As long as we don't have to wait that long to get online I will be fine. This, 2013 was an experimental year for them. GTA V was their first big deal online game which is why it is considered the best game they ever released to a lot of people. They won't have any issues with that for RDR2. I am sure they are testing it as we speak.
Hazed0NE
The only thing that drove me nuts was when it would take awhile to load and then just kick me. I got pretty pissed over that. I get it was their first run at a major online end GTA but still. As long as that crap don't happen, I will be a happy camper. If it does, prepare for a novel size thread of me complaining.
Suck3rPunch3d
If we have the same damn issues these many years later, I will be mad but like others have said, it likely won't happen. A lot has changed since GTA V's first year online.

I would be busy with something random (like achieve the highest jump or something) in a session when the next thing I knew I'd been booted out "into my own session" for some reason. These service "disconnects" are primarily what made me stop even bothering with the online mode (you should have seen the lag with actual group game modes lol).
ZLion
Yeah I experienced the long waiting and then getting kicked. That was a huge downer for me. I would also get kicked in the middle of doing online missions which would basically cause me to get pissed enough to shut the game off and not touch it for a week. After month of this happening, I just gave up.
elmZ
This one time I was in the middle of doing a group heist and got booted. If that happens again, anything like that on RDR2 Online I think I will lose it.

Would be nice if they could at least include an option that allows one to get back into something that takes so long to prepare for and get started with. Not sure if they already have something in place for crews/friend groups, etc. They could pause (optionally set by an organizer(s)) the event for a minute or two to allow the kicked player(s) to get back in and then resume. #SadCowboy
They may have down time still but loading periods over all should be better. Don't they have you download most of the game these days? Not sure how it works but I am fairly certain a lot of the loading was down to the size of the game and it not being entirely online. Maybe the online end will be just that, completely online and be saved to cloud storage.

I had to do this with CoD's latest game in the fall and it took nearly 2 hours. I have decent connection to the internet as well. Kind of annoying but at least this should prevent extended loading one would think.
Purple Cactus
You guys all made some fair points here. I think a lot of my worry over it is just down to issues on their end. I know no game is free from the chance of downtime or lag but still, GTA V was just so bad that I don't want to get my hopes up too high that all the issues from that will be fixed.
#SadCowboy
Saving to the cloud will be ideal and up the speeds. I just don't want the damn slow loading screens again.

The game is going to be more developed, richer in graphics, and all that jazz so it taking a bit to load should be expected. I am not bothered by the waiting time so long as it doesn't get stuck into a loop when I am trying to join a server.
LinXX
I just don't understand that there is even a chance of long loading periods this time. Games have come a long way since GTA V was released. It is not like it is an old game but a lot has improved. I would be shocked to see the same issues carry over.

As games improve, they become more demanding. The servers and the person's own connection play a role here too. If you are playing an online game with horrible internet, loading times will be slowed down regardless.
ChrisCr0ss
Knowing that this was a major complaint for a lot of people in GTA V I think it will be fixed. A lot of people don't realize this but GTA V online was about testing the waters for future games. They did a lot of trial and error with that game so every game we have from Rockstar will only improve.
Benjo
Looking forward to not being able to get into an online lobby for a week after it launches due to all the kids standing on each other's heads to get a game. I'll likely avoid the frustration and come to online a month after it launches.

I mean I am sure the servers will be better than GTA V but when that launched it was hell to go on and then you'd end up in a server with a bunch of tots running around screaming titties and hookers. I'll be too busy playing the campaign to care anyways.
CMcC
I don't even bother with online until I've finished the story. Hopefully that'll be enough time for things to have settled down a bit.

All the "kids" want to either rush the campaign or hop right online to show off and get as much as they can but if they play this out right, you will end up having more if you fully invest in the campaign end first.

It drives me nuts when i hear people haven't even played the GTA V story and only care about online. I know it shouldn't but i can't help it! They're missing so much! I would really have to question what kind of person would be willing to pay $60 just to go to an online server without even giving the main point of the game a chance. Really, it is likely only kids that would do that.
