I honestly think they’re trying hard to reduce the ‘griefing’ while keeping the PvP element alive. I’ll admit, it seems like an impossible task. But I believe the key is making it all mean something at the end of the day. Real rewards for going after outlaws. Real benefits for robbing and murdering. Real consequences for choosing a life of crime. Real punishment for being a di*k and taking things too far out of the context of the game. If they’re going the same route of open world chaos that they did in GTA, then yeah, I think @HuDawg is right in needing separate servers and the likes. If they’re truly going for something different from another reskin of the same old game, we need to push through the growing pains and hope it works out at the end of the day.3 points

Same here..... To top it all off, the campaigns became shorter and less interesting. Replayability in "on the rails" stories is also essentially non-existent for me. Exceptions might be games like The Last of Us. ....a game that was quite long and after a while I might forget certain levels, encounters, etc. that I don't mind exploring again. Even so, I tend to not complete a campaign like that a second time (quitting before I get there). These days, I prefer open world campaigns/stories like the Witcher, GRW, GTA, RDR, etc. where there is much more replay value for me. If CoD made a MW that was open world, I would probably be all over it. I just really have no interest in corridor shooters anymore.2 points

I agree, Warfighter was pretty darned good. You might also remember "Spec Ops: The Line", which had a pretty amazing story that really forced some tough choices on you. I've kind of fallen out of love with these "on the rails" kind of military shooters - they all end up being pretty much the same and have little to give once the short campaign has finished. I don't play online, so spending £40-50 for 12 hours gameplay isn't really worthwhile to me.2 points

REPORT THESE PLAYERS TO MICROSOFT AND ROCKSTAR. I know it takes a few minutes of your playtime but they are destroying hours of your playtime. IF YOU DO NOT, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM FOR ALLOWING IT TO CONTINUE. It has to be a conscientious and United effort2 points

Use whatever term you like, but I’m talking about things like when I have to go piss downstairs I’ll go into defensive mode far away from any action and hide myself in a cluster of trees. When I come back one guy suddenly lassoes me for a drag, the other guy opens fire on me while being dragged, and the third guy shoots my horse. Or the people who stand outside a general store waiting for some to come by and hitch their horse so they can shoot them in the back of the head, etc., etc., etc. If that’s what you enjoy doing to other players and having done to you, indeed the highlight of your night, I don’t know what to say. I ride around in free roam in offensive mode and I’m wary of everyone and always ready to defend myself. That’s a whole different story. This other stuff I call griefing for lack of a better term and that seems to be the label that’s been adopted by the community. There’s no reason for it. Most mature people frown upon it and wish it would be addressed. edit: Add to that the possies who stand next to the stranger mission icons knowing that as soon as you complete the mission successfully, the game will respawn you right there next to the station with no gun at the ready, no horse, and the three posse members can then immediately blast you with shotguns. No chance whatsoever to defend yourself. You respawn again and if you whistle for your horse, they kill it. If you don’t want to call them griefers, call them cowardly a-holes. They don’t love fighting or love hostile interactions or anything of that nature. They are there for no other purpose than to ruin other people’s games and try to piss people off. Of course they don’t consider it a problem, they are classic internet trolls.2 points

But that is also my point... I don’t feel like I should have to trick the system and isolate myself in order to enjoy a game. If the game works, you should have some reasonable opposition from other players (without being completely crippled by dickheads). I don’t know how this can be made to work, but I think Rockstar is trying to find the way.1 point

That's my point. You don't have to go back into public sessions unless you want to. I've been in public sessions maybe a handful of times but even then it was simply to initiate heists. There is absolutely no benefit for me in that free for all mode as I simply don't enjoy engaging or interacting with randoms. I don't enjoy the "battle"-like, chaotic atmosphere so I simply don't do it. ......that's my point. You don't have to. Call it a cheat, exploit, glitch or whatever but it simply tricks the system into forcing you into what is essentially a private session. Everything else works the same including enemy NPCs who try to stop your progress, etc. Experience or level brackets also mean nothing when you are in your own session or one with your friends as you can play at your own pace. I have also never spent a dime on Shark Cards. ....but again, I enjoy doing those business missions mostly on my own and on rare occasions with friends. .....never with randoms. RDO was different from the onset. Even without the anti-griefing measure they implemented it was never going to be the same as GTAO simply due to significant differences between the two like transportation, weaponry, etc. The proximity mechanics and other changes made even a bigger difference in the gameplay and for the better IMO. I like the direction RDO is going and with the MTU settings, GTAO still provides enough entertainment for me to revisit every now and again. It gave GTAO replay value for me where it would have had none. .....I would have uninstalled it long ago in other words.1 point

To be fair, we are barely out of beta... this is a brand new game still... most of the quitters left before the official release even happened and are not giving the game a chance to grow to its potential. I personally am still hopeful for a refreshing new game when it is all fleshed out.1 point

This right here is my biggest fear with separating the lobbies. The idea that sure, you can have a griefer free lobby, but you can’t do anything useful there. I tried gta on PS4 after a long break. I literally can’t do a single profitable thing due to some jackass flying by on his oppressor and blowing up my stuff without the ability to even try and fight back... yet I cannot make a private lobby and still make some money to be competitive.1 point

They're not which should be quite obvious after the last few updates if it wasn't before to some people. What was also made clear is that they want to keep this "one size fits all" mode that is Free Roam. ....right, wrong or indifferent. They have no interest in creating separate session options at this time and directly addressed that. I'd be for private or friends-only sessions too but that depends on what is included. If it's anything like GTAO where essentially all CEO and VP activities are locked behind Public sessions, then no. I would rather have what we have now. Personally, I think the anti-griefing measures have helped but for those expecting a truly passive experience in Free Roam, that's simply not going to happen. ....and you can't play the game expecting that any of these options will provide that. Whether that changes in the future, we'll have to see. From my own experience, my issues with griefers are quite rare. .....but then again, I essentially use the same SOPs as I always have in regard to randoms to help avoid being trolled.1 point

God, I played WoW so long ago I don't remember...but if I know me, I pretty sure I was on a PvE server. And now I'm curious about my Warlock. I might try to investigate what I can still find out about him. Another project for me... Regarding Rockstar's griefing, I feel they do want to encourage it, one of my examples of that is having to wait 30 seconds to enable Defensive mode. At best, I think Rockstar experiences some type of Janus faced disorder in regards to griefing.1 point

You have to continue to hold down L2 as you hit triangle(PS4) to get off your horse. While continuing to hold L2, use the left control stick to inch towards your lassoed target. When you get close enough, it will prompt you to hit circle to kill the animal or hogtie if it's a person.1 point

I thought I'd give you all an update, I put in a ticket with rockstar and had to send them a video clip of what was happening, they told me to permenantly disband the posse and gave me $200 in game money to create a new one and it worked perfectly and haven't had an issue since, this was about 3 days ago. So kudos to rockstar for being responsive and helping me fix the issue. But I'd definitely recommend that if the same problem happens to anyone else then contact rockstar, hopefully they'll be able to kind of refund the money rather than people just disbanding and losing money. But thank you all for the advice, I literally would never have thought about contacting rockstar directly 😊1 point

Trolls mate they are called trolls. I know a few folk who stopped playing online because of how frequent it is. One guy on this if I seen him I shot straight off every time now he avoids me. I'm about level 19 he is a lot higher (uses a carcano) and always when I was on a mission. Seen him last night and as soon as I spotted him he took off.1 point

Only been playing online for a week and met more "trolls" on this than World of Warcraft. 🤣1 point

Several Youtube videos suggest that Nacodouchebag saddle with hooded stirrups, in actual use, is "best" and according to general stats for acceleration and top speed uniquely adds a notch for each. Whether or not these bonus speed/accel stats actually work in practice is open to debate or testing (by someone else cos idc). So I think until definitive tests are done by people that have them all, one can't really say that the older models are the only ones you should be ultimately looking at. Just saying. More colour choices though across the board...yes please. How about a nice plain ol' brown leather one that doesn't make my hoss look like lady gaga on a bad night.1 point

Also something to know is the weight system is different online, when I started, I’d eat the same amount of meat I did in single player and immediately I was overweight. I couldn’t believe I was overweight. in single player I’d eat more and was always underweight. The only way I found to maintain perfect weight online is to eat only canned foods, and even then I let myself go hungry a lot of the time (like when hunting and there’s little chance of being killed). Also find as much ginseng and yarrow you can and craft potent health tonics to protect your cores without eating. Another thing is to always upgrade your tent, that way your health core will fill without needing to eat (especially if you rest in camp). So if you are just starting, constantly monitor your weight until you find the right amount of food for online play. I sell virtually all my meat to the butcher.1 point

Try going into your settings and adjusting it, from wide to narrow to none or something like that, you can adjust how strong the auto aim reacts for you, I tweaked mine a while back.1 point

So last night I decided to play in Offensive mode to test how long I could go without incident. I was in Valentine minding my business, looking at the map trying to find where one of the "rescue" dynamic events usually spawns for the daily challenge. A 2 man posse was killing NPCs and chatting about which guns were better. Suddenly I get pulled from my map because one of them gave me a face full of LeMat. I respawn and go looking for my horse thinking "maybe they accidentally shot me" when I get shot again. I pull my Lancaster and get tagged in the face by the same person again. I respawn, and whistle for my horse. I remember I still have 8 dynamite arrows from a care package a long time ago... These two guys are still casually chatting, "buddy" doesn't even mention that he's engaged in a fight with me. I catch him rounding the corner taking aim at me again but I dismembered him with a dynamite arrow. I figure he got what he had coming and turn to leave when this dude, not even joking complains that I randomly killed him with a dynamite arrow hahahaha and that "she's trying to hightail it!". I IMMEDIATELY stop and turn around and blast him once more to even the score, since he had a bead on me already. Then his partner comes to "rescue" him, running Paint It Black and dual sawed offs (pretty OP and not much "skill" needed), but I'm done at this point as I don't want to waste any more of my stash (as I'm only level 54). "Big man" gets a stiff one so swole I could hear it in his annoying voice as he brags about how he's destroying me "before she even sees me!" (relax D-ink Smallwood, you're the least of my concern right now). I respawn and slowly walk around unarmed and laughing my ass off at the tangent this incel is going on. He's launched into a sexist rant about "f----ing women, she's going to parley and call her boyfriend" yada yada. I just wave at him whenever he finds me, die, respawn, wait and wave some more. At this point the only thing I'm losing is my time, the Raptors play in about 30 minutes and I'd like to get at least one more daily done... "Moosh... Moosh, I know that name, I've seen her before! I just sit and stare at some usernames for like 15 minutes, I know that s--- like the back of my hand!" (BOOOY Cool your eggroll, I would remember a turd like you if we'd met before. Maybe you've seen me on a forum somewhere). I got some thick skin, I have a very twisted mind and I can think of some evil things to get even but it really costs too much energy that most don't deserve to have spent on them. Then Mr Knight in Shining Armour can't contain his swollen member anymore and starts going off on "what [ I ] need" and "what [I'm] not getting at home", and not joking I could hear him getting off on the digital butt of my character. This dude is too far gone, there's no hope for him to ever smash (take good care of that fleshlight, pal). I saved the whole thing and I soooo wish that the PS4 Share function captures the in-game voice chat in RDR2 but it doesn't lol. So this post will have to do to show how much of a tool this poor "kid" is. (If he's older than 21, lord have mercy on his soul hahaha) No username dropping, but if he truly has seen me somewhere, I hope it's here LOL Griefers gon' grief...1 point

A scene in every western movie ever made: The camera slowly pans back from an overhead view. There is man laying in bed motionless, his body riddled with bullet holes and barely clinging to sweet life. Days pass into night in a endless cycle as a lovely woman carefully wipes his forehead with a wet rag and silently prays at his bedside. Finally a spark of light appears from his eyes and he slowly raises from the bed. Yes.....he is a broken man as he struggles to swallow spoonful of soup, knowing that his antagonists will soon return to finish the job they started. Scene: A row of bottles and empty cans line the top rail of an old wooden fence, Gunshots ring out! But the scene remains static until we see a bottle explode. The camera pans back to the rancher. His left arm is cradled in a sling but his right hand firmly grasps his pistol as smoke curls from it's barrel. His aim is slow and erratic at first, but we then see a multitude of rusted cans, suspended in midair, with bullet holes in their centers. The bad guys return, he shoots the guns out of the hands of the sidekicks and plants a shot in the forehead of their leader. If his wife had returned those bottle and cans to the recycling center the week previously......?1 point

Maybe not for ‘honour’. But it wasn’t that long ago when we still had independent stores of various types. The kind where the guy behind the cash register also owned the place and knew all the regular customers by name... If you had a decent reputation at a place like this you could do things like ask him to hold your cheque until Friday. Or maybe he’d toss in something extra just because, or not worry when you came up $10 short for the bill... I’m thinking back in the RDR2 times this was even more a thing.1 point

I don't have an answer for you but we have had issues with getting people into a perma-posse, and people being in the posse but still a pale blip on the map. Sometimes the posse lists them as a member but they aren't actually in the posse as they get left behind when we do story missions etc. There is certainly a glitch with the posse system but I don't know how wide spread it is. We usually manage to get it to work by changing session.1 point

here good tips ... cook big game meat IV , they last longer , use slow and steady and ability card , and have a ability that restore your dead eye per headshot and strange medicine can help alot , also in free roam it possible to havea posse to eam up vs others , maybe why you have difficulty alone1 point

I've been running into high level players. That cheap shot kill me for no reason. Then when I come back at them and kill them a few times. They turn on defensive mode and still attack me.. Giving themselves a bit of damage reduction and forcing free aim on me. Players should not be able to turn on defensive mode during a gun fight that that they started.1 point

I think if they do it continuously, targeting unsuspecting players, then yeah it’s griefing, but either way I think it’s cowardice.1 point

I've taken part in a posse race and it's between posse members. Not between separate possies.1 point

It maybe worth checking out, but so far the game that came closest to getting it right (when it comes to reality) was Medal of Honor: Warfighter - from back in the day.1 point

Just throwing this out there - I noticed when I try to join a friend's server, "Join Game" is always greyed out, but if I wait for a few seconds, it becomes available. Perhaps the Posse Versus menu has a similar delay? Note - I have no experience yet with the Posse Versus menu.1 point

Headshots and shotguns. I’d suggest playing some PVP modes for awhile, if for no other reason than to practice you combat skills. Try to focus on modes that allow you to respawn and get back into the fray. It’s really one of those things that you just need to practice it starts to click with you.1 point

It's a lot to do with using the right gun in the right situation. Unfortunately the carbine repeater is pretty crappy, so if you're low level you are at a real disadvantage until you unlock something better. As soon as you unlock a shotgun, buy one. At close range you will one shot anyone with standard ammo. The bolt action is a very effective rifle (even though I don't like it because it isn't cowboy enough for my taste), so getting that will make a big difference. A couple of revolvers for versatile mid range complete a sensible loadout. I don't see a massive difference in performance, so as soon as you can have an offhand holster a second cattleman is fine. Freeroam events can be a bit of a kill frenzy. Until you get more comfortable, find somewhere in cover and take targets of opportunity. And watch the minimap. But yes, headshots are a vital part of the game if you want to kill other players.1 point

I actually thought about that the other day in regard to griefing. I have a mic but don’t use it, I mute everyone, and I don’t even know how to send or receive messages. All I hear are in game sounds. That makes me an extremely boring person to grief. It’s like trying to kick a rock to get a reaction out of it - pointless. I either respawn, hunker down, and kill them if they get in range, or I press charges and move on if I have no time for them. They might get an initial cheap shot, but if they want to keep it going they’ll have to spend an hour eating my bullets. No fun at all for them and they quickly move on. There’s no problem using a mic and many people wouldn’t play with out one. But just treat them like mosquitoes. You don’t get mad at a mosquito if it bites you - you either slap it dead or let it fly away. Treat them the same way because they’re just trolls looking to get under your skin. Good advice above.1 point

Definitely a logical step. Doesn't matter how old the discussion is, if you have something new to ask or add, I'd rather see a necrobump than yet another thread on the same issue. It shows the history of said issue. +1 reputation for you1 point

I hear you man. I play with the griefers sometimes but not too much, I leave that type of gameplay for PvP sessions. I dont think anti griefers make any difference, they just engage in the type of gameplay the griefers prefer. If I was in the mood for a free roam shootout and some people came after me, thats exactly what I would want, a free roam shootout. I did send my feedback to rockstar, and I do believe youre right; rockstar wants us to be griefed, at least to a certain extent. Like I mentioned before, it becomes annoying when its excessive. For example: the other day I was hunting outside blackwater, some bison and some other random game. Soon as I entered blackwater to sell my catch I get killed and they set my horse on fire... Before the hunting I was playing PvP, so I wasnt in the mood to go back to shooting, went back to hunting some more, then I took off for rhodes... got killed on the way there by some random out of left field. Made it to rhodes and there was a shootout going on right by the butcher, left and headed to strawberry. Made it to strawberry, sold whatever I had and got killed leaving the butcher lol. Its pretty much a PvP server atm. If this is what rockstar wants from online theyre catering to a small minority. Im not gonna invest in that, I can enjoy my hunting in story mode. Ill still play PvP though, thats for sure.1 point
