  1. I don't even own the Varmint Rifle. My current favorites are the Lancaster (Yellow Boy) and pump action shotgun. .....and my two Schofields of course. I've heard and seen (especially trolls) using the varmint rifle but I never missed it. I will buy it at some point but right now I'm focusing on making it to lvl 31 for the Express ammo. My next weapon will be the lever action shotgun and then maybe the Litchfield (Henry) or Springfield. I've already got the Bolt Action and Rolling Block rifles. .....the latter I'm getting pretty proficient at for distant take downs even though there is no auto aim with it. I'm still torn on the semi auto shotgun.
  2. I had the same issue. However, I believe the locations assigned also has to do with what's available at the time. The game will not assign the same camp location to more than one player a far as I can tell. Given that there is a limited amount of camps available, I can see where the game might not be able to assign you one in the area you choose. .....assigning alternatives in surrounding provinces instead. In that sense, they could at least place them closer to your present location IMO or give an option to set up a camp closest to you. ....maybe even let you know no more camps are available in the area you choose (e.g. greying out the province in the selection). Just some food for thought. Also, I would assume this might be a concern of the past once properties are available for purchase as players will likely be able to occupy the same buildings as they do in GTA.
  3. This beta is clearly different than most others on console where they are typically just stress test and used for marketing. It's a working beta. Also, although RDO is in beta, it is available to everyone who has a copy of RDR2. I don't see any unfairness in those who have been gifted gold and in-game money for playing the game so far. This is nothing different than what R* does with GTA during certain weekends, events or other periods of time where they award money or freebies to players just for logging in, etc.
  4. Been there, done that.....
  5. Oh my...... Word of caution to anyone who clicks on that video and watches more than a couple seconds of it. ......you WILL have that horrible tune stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
  6. @john013 (and anyone else who cares) I follow these Twitter sources for RDO news and I found them quite reliable for the latest updates when they hit: @RockstarGames @RDonlineNews @RDonlineNews Personally, I'm not going to get worked up on pure assumptions. Back on Dec 4th they even mentioned (due to concerns of a stat / progress reset) that they "currently do not have any plans to reset them as part of the Beta’s rollout". They obviously can't guarantee that there will be no reset(s) as they may still yet run into unforeseen issues that may require it. However, this doesn't necessarily mean that gold, money and purchased items would be affected if they did have to reset players progress, level, etc. This is all just speculation on the off chance that they might have to reset anything.
  7. My beef wasn't necessarily with the OPs stance on skill with auto aim but the whole sense of pride and accomplishment some feel about "skillz" in a freakin' GAME. ......and their desire to brag about it to everyone else as if it were some sort of life accomplishment to be proud of. Call me when you're making six figures on the competitive gaming circuit and endorsements, then I might be impressed. ......I said might. Personally, I could give two craps about K/D ratios, stats, etc. As long as my friends and I are having fun, that's all that matters. ....and yeah, a little ribbing / gloating in that context is fine.
  8. Who knows. I'm sure we will have more news soon however.
  9. Take solace in the fact that there was unlikely any treasure map to be had as others have said. I've raided tons of gang hideouts and I don't believe I ever had one drop for me (a friend got one though off a dead body). Still don't know how that works. I've only had two issues with griefers in recent memory. One was when I was retrieving a treasure from a map I got by leveling up. It was the one in the Grizzlies at the top of a waterfall. He was on the opposite end and came poking his nose around. This is way out in the boonies and for a random to come into that area he was definitely following me. .....and I was in my rights to shoot him IMO. Unfortunately, I only had my Lancaster with a small scope but I could still observe him with my binoculars. I took cover and he eventually left after discovering there was no easy way to get across. If I had my Rolling Block Rifle in hand, I would have taken the shot no doubt. The other troll was a guy that continued to follow me even after I tried backtracking. I finally stopped on a hill around a corner and waited for him to come around the bend. I started taking shots when he bolted off and hid behind a rock. I couldn't get him but I was able to suppress. ......then I saw his horse so I downed it and then took off and put some distance between us. He never gave up though. He eventually came at me when I was at a lake surrounded by cliffs. I waited to see what he was on about. ....he roped me and I died. After that, I was relentless. I killed him 3 more times and then (again) his horse. He tried to pursue me again so I led him toward a posse near by. The others we annoyed as well and proceeded to annihilate him. .....I took my leave at that point and he quit the session. In that particular case, I blocked him and reported his behavior as "disruptive" using the in-game reporting tool.
  10. Well in that case, bring on the phased plasma rifle in 40 watt range. Why let any sense of reality stop us, right?
  11. I dunno..... I think the horse behavior, animations, etc. are one area R* did a pretty good job but that's my own experience / opinion. While aspects of the game are not "realistic", there are other components that do help bring a level of immersion to the game world which make some of the more arcadey elements (e.g. gunplay) bearable for me.
  12. It's funny..... Every time I play solo I've been keeping the channel open to all but don't hear squat. People are either using PSN party chat, don't have mics or simply have them muted.
  13. Never had this happen to me. ......at least not yet. Only when performing some activities or when I over use it (it stops for a few seconds).
  14. Different breeds have different quirks / characteristics. My Arabian for example is fast but it is more twitchy and can get upset easily by comparison. Regardless of bonding level their attitude and performance will also change when fatigued, frightened, startled, etc. Personally, I like how R* added these kinds of elements into the game. Horses are after all living creatures and don't always act exactly how you want them to. I'm glad they don't act robotic.
  15. The 1911 didn't see service until a decade after the time RDR2 is set in. In 1899 it was still a prototype and not in the form of what we know as the 1911 design.
  16. The whole wanted level in the game is a joke right now. It's ridiculously easy to ride out of range and then there are no repercussions from the event. As for witnesses, it's a mixed bag IME. Some will see you as the aggressor while others will simply ride on. My guess is that some will simply see you as the offender while others may not. ....but then again, in RDO, it really makes no difference as you can usually be on your merry way before the law gets there. ....and yeah, I also get some folks who bump into me but to be honest, it doesn't happen that often. I usually just move out of the way and that's fine enough. .....but when I do bump into someone, leaving the immediate area usually calms things down.
  17. .......freakin' hilarious. Can't believe this thread is still going.
  18. The whole idea that diving should be nerfed because it's "unrealistic" is puzzling to me. There is nothing "realistic" about the gunplay in Rockstar games. In a title where auto aim is relied on so heavily, I can see why they included a way like this to help break that lock. Personally, I would love the gunfighting and weapons to be more realistic but then again, you would need to get rid of auto aim or severely restrict it. ......and then slow down the obscenely fast reloads, etc. Only then would it make more sense to me to start getting rid of the ability cards, rolling to break auto aim lock, obscenely fast reload times, make dual wielding highly inaccurate at range, etc. R*'s idea of gunplay is very arcadey which for me is fine in this game. Yeah, I would love it to be more realistic but they would have to change a lot and then rebalance the weapons and mechanics. Personally, I wish there were hardcore servers that eliminated rolls, auto aim, abilities and the like. It would completely change the whole dynamic of the game, griefing, etc. It would be much harder to just ride in and mow people down. Hunting would be more challenging. Engagements would take tactics and skill. .....but it is what it is. In Free Roam, I rarely see people rolling around and if they do, they typically get killed by me and/or my posse. I don't like the PvP game modes in RDO personally since they mostly seem like a chaotic, all-out twitch fest.
  19. I'm retired and have plenty of time on my hands but there's no way I'd spend that much time playing games.
  20. Accepted the request and sent you an invite to the PSN community. We have a handful of folks from the UK. Personally, I'm from the US on the west coast so not so sure if we will ever be online at the same time.
  21. I hit level 27 last night. I stopped hunting for the most part and concentrated on playing the side missions. Early on I assumed you couldn't play side missions solo. .....but you can. Yeah, some are more difficult playing alone but others aren't so bad. The best part is that these missions typically dole out 200 - 300+ XP. While they don't particularly pay well (the gold nuggets are nice though), you can level up pretty quick IME. My next goal is lvl 31 then I can start buying Express ammo.
  22. Nothing petty about it IMO. You should have some control over who you want to be thrown into games with. It's not as if it has any negative consequences to the one you block. ......good for you. I'm selective too.
  23. It's a bug. Has happened to me too. I think I respawned and it kicked it loose. I do the respawn thing for side missions as well when they don't engage.
  24. Who does that?
  25. Of course. I get that some may be legitimate but I still block them anyway to help mitigate the risk of being steamrolled.
