Female Gamers: Are they too much a distraction for male players?

I personally have no issues with female gamers and I admit I do enjoy gaming with them, but I had a couple of instances this weekend that made me shake my head in shame.

1st, playing GoW4 with my wife and 3 others, we was playing Horde.  At one point, my wife got knocked down and cried for my assistance.  At that point I noticed the 3 others immediately stopped focusing on bad guys and swarmed to her aid.   After that, it became increasingly difficult and felt like I was fighting all alone.  The others seemed smitten with her and wouldn't leave her sight.  To the point that they was getting in her line of sight making it impossible for her to play.  She got tired of it and quit.

2nd, playing the Division, Survival.  Joined a group of 3, 2 guys and a gal.  Asked what the game plan would be.  The young lady said she didn't know and that she had barely played that game mode often and would need help.  One of the other guys claimed the same.  The last guy, immediately started pounded his chest and bragging about how great he was and insisted that the girl go with him, while I schooled the other fella.  I was cool with that, so they went their way and we went ours.  After 15 minutes or so they was in trouble and begging for our help.  So we go and save them and eventually complete the game mode.  The weird part is after we was done, you have to hop on a helicopter,  and the gent trying to be the Alpha male insisted that he set next to his new girlfriend.  Then he tells her to send him a friend request.  The fella that I was leading around then said what a good idea, we should do it again sometime.  The Alpha male, then went defensive and stated that, "No, she needed a guy that could protect her and get her through these type of missions."  Afterwards, I noticed the young lady stopped talking and I started to feel uncomfortable with where this discussion seemed to be going.

Why is it guys seem to play different when a female is present?  Are they hoping to impress her?  Been my experience that most female gamers are far more blood thirsty then males.  In a world where we seek equality for all, why can't some can't treat others as equals?

If I remember, @BelleStarr is a lady gamer. What do you think about this? Personally I think it's funny how kids put their bow tie on and try to act cool in front of a random gamer just because they are a girl. You're at level 99/100 on a shooter game kid, you're never gonna look cool.

I was telling my wife about a player I used to have on my friends list.  That in RDR, she used to just talk to watch guys come running from across the map just to be around her.  One particular instance, she talked about how tough one of the hideouts was to clear.  Literally, everyone one on the server showed up to help her clear it and then most of them started tripping over each other to talk to her.  After a few minutes, she would leave and invite the rest of us from her group to the new server, where she did it again.   It all started cause I was having a debate with another guy in the group, that if players new a female was playing they stop what they was doing and come running.  So we all left party chat so she could end the debate.

Many guys are going to treat women differently.  Call me old (well, maybe because I am) but in personal interactions, I still treat women with a higher degree of respect in the sense of traditional courtesy, etc.  I still open doors, give up my seat, etc.  That's just the way I was raised.

However, it's clear most of the encounters I've seen in gaming like this were simply guys trying to win favor in some bizarre hope they'll make an online connection with a girl.   It's a game, not a dating service.  In that sense, I too treat everyone equally.  .....and that is determined mostly by someone's personality, manners, etc.

I get a sense that many of these guys that display this kind of behavior in games are likely socially inept IRL to some degree.  I guess that's why I get visions of some lonely virgin playing games in his Mom's basement.

Either way, I found it bizarre and a little troublesome.   Just picture some girl being stalked online by a guy she was nice and played a game with.  I have heard some females state they don't use mics because of how guys treat them online, some overly positive and most abysmal bad.

That is just pure modesty right there.  I'm thinking level 99+, more likely hit max and rolled a few times already.  hahaha

Damn guys, that's my dad....

.....another sad thing is that your know he had that chain mail made for himself.  I mean, where would you even go these days to get something like that done?

I had a buddy years ago whose brother was making his own. Dude weighed like 350 though so it was going to take A LOT of rings. Not sure if he ever got it done.

You could probably get it at a Renaissance fair though (yes, they still have those).

I know.  My next door neighbor went to one a couple months ago.  I caught him and his family on their way out (wondered what the costumes were for).  .....I just smiled and said "that's cool".

My "baby brother" (who comes in at 6'6", 245 lbs) does that LARP stuff.  He's broken his arm, chipped his elbow, and now has a rod and three pins in the pinky of his 'sword hand".  All those injuries came from fighting with wooden swords wrapped in foam, swung by dudes and dudettes that don't want to spend time in the gym.

To be fair, neither do I, but I drink to hide the pain.

My girl and I play games all the time and anytime we would openly chat in a public online lobby, people would think she was a little boy because of her voice and say things like "Come back when your balls drop" and all that. She never corrects them and jabs them right back. It is all in fun.

I have no issue with female gamers so long as the thirsty virgin male gamers don't start pitching tents and make uneven matchups for the rest of us in a public setting. I have seen it happen a few times in GTA V as well as CoD games. It is 2018, girls can game too. Keep it in your pants sheesh! (Not you OP, the thirsty virgins lol)

Way to make a "LARPist" sound like a badass!

Edit: ...LARPer...?

I'm a female and I kind of see why you would come to the conclusion. I have seen plenty of girls play online games just for attention from guys and they will purposely "play dumb" or make sexual remarks to appeal to a mostly male lobby. I was never one to do this and when I would play with a group of guys, they all knew me on some kind of personal level. So if I did indeed suck at the game, they would rag on me for it, not help me because b00bs.

I see this kind of stuff more so with the 14 to 24 age range. Most older gamers, guys and gals, don't act like this or react these ways.

It's because older guys generally know the answer to this question:

Regardless of age, nowadays no guy should act that way.  Trying to raise a son in this world where I tell him to be respectful regardless of your differences and then have others do the exact opposite.   I have tried to explain they are showing him "what not to do".

Leading by example is all you gotta do. You can't control other people, especially not other kids. I have seen plenty of bad kids on and offline. So long as your boy knows right from wrong and how to be responsible, he'll be fine. This world is a mess and hopefully will improve in time.

There is nothing wrong with guys looking to help out some noobs, be it female or male but if you start making it your life's mission to handhold a female through a game that requires a group effort, you end up hurting the entirety of the mission. I played a lot of WoW back in the day and it was a MAJOR issue on there.

I like women. I like women who play games. It is a HUGE bonus for me when I am dating a woman who enjoyed video games. The issue here isn't the women, it is the try hards who will hit on anything with a pair of tits and a controller.

For me, there's a balance in our relationship. She kinda likes video games but she knows the closest she'll get to playing RDR2 within the first week is to sit near me and not talk while I play it. I do the same with her games.

I was with a girl in my late teens who was more of a hardcore gamer than I was. Played all the CoD games, WoW, even the cheesy ones like Sims you would expect gals to enjoy. She would get so heated too. It was worse than playing a game with my older brother (he once threw a controler at my head and I had to get stitches lol). I am fine if you are passionate about a game or something but holy hell this girl was nuts. My friend used to say she shot up roids or something when I was at work lol

I have seen a lot of crazy things during this generation, and males trying to get female gamers attention isn't anything new. Honestly, not everyone is thirsty for girl gamers, but you have to think you will obviously encounter at some point, that a girl gamer will get talked to by guys who never really had a social life or let alone a girlfriend, so honestly I'm not surprised that this occurred.

Honestly, don't try to take anything to seriously playing video games, the main thing is to have fun, and not let others ruin your time. If you can do that, it's pretty much easy sailing from there.

Saying that female gamers might be a distraction for male gamers almost sounds as though the world would be better without female gamers.

Which, of course, is absolutely wrong.

I don't care whether gamers are male, female, non-binary, non-defining, gender-fluid, or wearing their grand-moms prom dress. I just don't care.

Just play the game, shoot the bad guys, and show respect toward your fellow gamers (whether on-team or opposing).

That's all I really want to see.

However, Online gaming seems to be about 75% jackasses.

This whole scenario in the OP isn’t limited to games. It is a primary reason many oppose women serving in combat in the military. Men, culturally and perhaps even genetically, are ‘programmed’ to protect women. They tend to ignore orders, lose discipline, relegate to secondary the assigned mission to ‘go to the aid of’ women. Whether they need it, or not.

(Although, just limiting it to when a woman soldier, like any man, WOULD get injured and need help — it is a kind of valid point, from what I’ve seen of men and of soldiers).

We shall not stop till the Sausage Party is in full swing!

As far as RDO goes.. I hereby claim the Tree House as men only.    This is No Maam County!
