Poggy
I turn these features off because I expect the sound waves to be mostly polluted with trolls screaming abuse and then reeeeeing when shot back. Am I right? What have people's experiences with chat been like?
DLKnives
I set it to "Posse only" so I don't know. I have no interest in listening to the masses.
Grey Gato
Chat is mostly quiet — nothing at all like GTAO. I’m guessing most people have it set to friends only. I do occasionally hear people “out there” but not much shouting or cussing (or beeping smoke detectors). I wonder if public chat is proximity based. But not enough to experiment with it. -Gato P.S. Jameson87
Really is a crapshoot as far as servers go. Had a dude blaring his music into the mic on his headset and laughing about it. Shot a message off to everyone else in the server as a warning, then I returned the favor. Blaring Judas Priest and Lamb of God into the mic until he just started bitching and complaining. He ended leaving our server and peace was restored.
The Ugly
Haven’t had much luck in chat. Just people trash talking and mouth breathers. I haven’t gone into a server where I didn’t have to mute some people.

Am I right? The only reason I leave it on is to listen to them scream, complain and try to insult me...lol Its music to my ears. Im one of those people that don't care about what people say as I don't take people literally.. I always look for what they actually mean and why. So when I get people yelling and insulting me because im beating them... Well, its just music to my ears. 1
Poggy
Would you accept role-playing as a reason for abusive chat? As a spin-off from another thread this became an interesting idea to me. I wonder what voice, accent and content my character would have? I strongly suspect he'd be quite, quite awful. Im pretty much cool with everything. Funny stupid story. About race and racist role playing involving two of my friends. One using a white character another a black. The white character looks like Leonardo DiCaprio from Django Unchained (And sounds like him) and he belittles the black character with racist banter to see how others in game re-act. They love to ride into town in a stage coach and put on a little show.. Funny thing is the White character is being controlled by an actual Black person and the Black Character is being controlled by a White Person. But NO one knows this... The re-action from people is soo funny. Some get angry, some actually join in on the racist banter. Some with black characters even started to obey him and say "Yessa Master". Vaderspupil
I never go into RDR2 without party chat being on.
YodaMan 3D
I like do to listen to them talk about how they are going to kill me, while they are being so sneaky and try to ambush me. It has been a crapshoot though. Not that many really use it. 1

I've made some "friends" by chatting to people, especially ones that have "owned" me during feuds. I really will have to stop taking on lvl 100+ players!!! Actually, its been ok, most don't have it switched to "public" the only issue I have is much of the "chatter" I hear is arabic or french for some reason. But your right about the occassional " I'm going to kill you mutha&*^%^&". But I've learned quite a lot of tips by chatting to higher level players on how they levelled up, and where to farm etc.
chocolatefinch
it's okay usually, you get the odd idiot with their mic turned up full but apart from some guy singing an Ed Sheeran song in swahili it's not too bad. 1
Kean_1
It's funny..... Every time I play solo I've been keeping the channel open to all but don't hear squat. People are either using PSN party chat, don't have mics or simply have them muted.
chocolatefinch
I havn't played online for a while. It might have changed now. Didn't hear many English voices when I did last play.
Anc1entC0re
Based on the few times I left it on and didn't have it set to posse only, I would hear either people arguing with kids, kids screaming, or some players just saying stupid things. Doesn't the public chat work according to distance? So if I am away from other players, I won't hear them?
DLKnives
After Xmas you probably hear a lot of Mommies telling the kids to get off the game. I had one kid join me in chat and he sounded like a girl he was so young. And foul mouthed? OMG Guess he's trying to impress people.
KRooKeD KRoW
I used my headset the first few weeks of beta, but would keep my mic muted unless I got with a group that was communicating. I'll cough or clear my throat a lot, make my own chewing or other noises (i.e. the things that make me cough), and people don't need to hear that. As people have said, most the time there's just silence, but after a while, unless I would posse up with some friends, I stopped even putting my headset on. More often than people communicating, I would come across people blaring their music, eating something really crunchy, kids constantly screaming into the mic (this ones probably worse now after Christmas), or just have a broken mic that causes a constant squelch. For most activities, you can get by without communication as long as people aren't complete idiots, but it definitely does help, and usually makes it more interesting. Gh0stRyder
If you join a very vocal server, you will likely hear a bunch of screaming and name-calling. Most I have joined were pretty quiet unless people were trolling or looking to join a posse or recruit people.
