Kean_1
RED DEAD ONLINE UPDATE COMING SEPTEMBER 10INTRODUCING FRONTIER PURSUITS - NEW BOUNTY HUNTER, TRADER AND COLLECTOR SPECIALIST ROLES AND MORE The next Red Dead Online update arrives September 10 and introduces three new Frontier Pursuits, the next step in the continual evolution of Red Dead Online. Frontier Pursuits are an ongoing series of Roles for players to inhabit, delivering a wide array of themed activities that each offer unique items, skills and more as you progress through each Role. In addition to the first three new Roles comes dramatic improvements to player control with quicker and more responsive movement across all phases of combat and locomotion; the ability to redesign your character’s appearance without resetting progress; greater damage resistance while in the Defensive playing style; new Ability Cards; new Daily Challenges and Daily Role Challenges; more Dynamic Events happening across the frontier; a slew of new items and much more. With each Role, you’ll always have new pursuits to embark upon that lead to unique items and skills as you progress, in addition to Cash and Gold payouts. As Red Dead Online continues to evolve, more Frontier Pursuits will be added, giving you new Roles, new choices and more ways to personalize your path through the world of Red Dead Online. Each Role automatically earns Role XP as you complete a Role’s activities: when you hunt a bounty, you’ll earn Role XP toward the Bounty Hunter; when you find a collectible, you’ll earn Role XP towards the Collector and so on. Role XP counts towards your progression through 20 Role Ranks. You will reach a new tier of distinction every 5 ranks: Novice, Promising, Established and Distinguished. Unlocking a Role Rank earns Role Tokens and at certain ranks you’ll also unlock new skills, such as the Bounty Hunter ability to duck for protection on horseback or a Trader’s ability to train their camp dog to warn of a camp raid by thieves; upgrades to your satchel’s carrying capacity; or access to new Role specific Free Roam events. Each tier also has a kit of items that are unique to the Role and can be unlocked for purchase using Role Tokens. For example, the Trader’s Novice Kit gives you access to seven Trader Role items including a unique Saddle, Gun Belt and a Stew Pot that provides your camp with fresh meals to refill your cores and your Posse’s cores (and additional recipes to prepare special stews for Gold Cores), while the Bounty Hunter’s Established Kit gives you access to seven Bounty Hunter Role items - including a Bounty Wagon to hold multiple bounty targets, the Bolas throwing weapon to tangle the legs of bounties, a new outfit and more. Players that progress to Distinguished ranks will have earned a range of new skills that will be useful in all their pursuits across the frontier; advanced camp styles and comforts; and recognizable clothing items that will show off their accomplishments in each discipline. Get started as a Bounty Hunter when you meet the Legendary Bounty Hunter in Rhodes and purchase the Bounty Hunter License. The standard cost is 15 Gold Bars, while Twitch Prime Members who link their Twitch and Rockstar Games Social Club accounts by Sunday September 8 will get the Bounty Hunter License for free starting September 10. Licensed Bounty Hunters can pick up work by visiting bounty boards located near law offices, post offices and train stations across the states. There is no shortage of criminals to be dealt with and the targets range in difficulty, from lone low-level criminals to notorious outlaws with armed protection details and a watchful eye. Taking on an armed gang or bringing multiple targets to justice is made easier with the help of a Posse, who will all earn a cut of the final bounty. And keep in mind, bringing in targets alive will yield a greater reward. Eclipsing Bounty Hunter Rank 12 will open up the opportunity to take down other players with high bounties of $20 or more. Bounty Hunters will be notified through an invite about the opportunity to hunt down the wanted player when they’re nearby in a structured pursuit. The wanted player must escape (or surrender) within the allotted time and if captured, they’ll also have opportunities to escape and flee. If the Bounty Hunter brings the target in alive, they’ll receive an award while the criminal serves time. Unique Bounty Hunter skills and items include: Focus: Targets glow red in Eagle Eye Reinforced Lasso: A lasso made with reinforced rope to keep bounties secure Reverse Spin: Perform a Reverse Spin with a single pistol or revolver Tonics Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Tonics Pouch Eagle Eye+: Track enemies while sprinting or galloping Spin Up: Perform a Spin Up with a single pistol or revolver Kit Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Kit Pouch Tracking Arrow Pamphlet: A pamphlet recipe on how to craft Tracking Arrows Reverse Spin Up: Perform a Reverse Spin Up with a single pistol or revolver Ducking: Duck for protection while on horseback Bolas: A thrown weapon, perfect for tangling the legs of bounties Bounty Wagon: A wagon for securely retaining bounty targets Perception: Receive a notification of bounties from a greater distance Alternating Flips: Perform Alternating Flips with a single pistol or revolver Dual Gun Spinning: Perform gun spinning tricks with two pistols or revolvers Your trusted camp companion, Cripps, has long dreamed of starting a trading outpost and you’re going to help him make it happen - by becoming a partner in the fledgling Cripps Trading Company. Combining Cripps’ lifetime of working with animal materials and your skills at hunting and frontier security, you’ll have the perfect ingredients to develop a thriving business. Once you agree to help Cripps, you can start turning your camp into a business by sourcing items for Cripps to convert into sellable goods. An investment of 15 Gold Bars to purchase a Butcher’s Table will get your business up and running, while all PlayStation 4 players will get the Butcher’s Table for free. Once you’re operational, you’ll provide Cripps with Materials through hunting animals – pristine pelts and carcasses will provide better yields. You’ll also take on Resupply Missions to acquire additional necessities through less than savory tactics. Once supplied, Cripps will begin turning the materials into sellable goods, which can then be sent out on low-risk local deliveries for payment or across greater distances for a premium. Improve your hunting yields with a Hunting Wagon for larger hauls or upgrade your Delivery Wagons for larger sales. As business flourishes and your presence becomes known in the market, your competition may grow jealous of your success, so keep an eye out for raids on your camp. As your trade grows, you might consider purchasing a camp dog from Wilderness Outfitters. Not only are dogs great camp companions for all players, but a Trader of sufficient rank can teach their dog to warn of incoming attacks. Unique Trader skills and items include: Stew Pot: A camp upgrade that unlocks stew recipes to boost cores Ingredients Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Ingredients Pouch Awareness: Identify rival Trader wagons at an increased range Canine Warning: Train your dog to warn of thieves raiding your camp Medium and Large Delivery Wagons: Upgraded wagons that can hold more goods for transport Weapons Locker: Store weapons for later use Lance Knife: A bespoke knife style available to Traders only Efficiency: Learn to increase the amount of usable materials from perfect carcasses Materials Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Materials Pouch Hunting Wagon: A sturdy wagon fit for carrying multiple carcasses, hides and pelts Protection: Reduce the chance of raids at your camp Seek out the mysterious travelling saleswoman Madam Nazar to acquire the Collector’s Bag and get started on the path of the Collector. By successfully collecting all 54 hidden playing cards in GTA Online you can forego the upfront cost of the Collector’s Bag and earn it for free. Otherwise, it will cost 15 Gold Bars for access to collecting and selling rare items. With Madam Nazar’s help, you will be able to explore the world finding valuable treasures, whether they’re discarded Tarot cards in abandoned camps, buried treasures unearthed with your trusty shovel, hidden family heirlooms and more. Collect individual pieces and sell them off directly to Madam Nazar or collect entire sets for even more valuable sales. As you progress, you’ll unlock enhanced searching skills; more useful tools like a metal detector; benefits like increased carrying capacities; the ability for your horse to directly pluck and pass herbs to you while mounted, and more. Unique Collector skills and items include: Divination: Sense when near collectibles Pennington Field Shovel: An essential tool for uncovering buried collectibles Potential: Detect disturbed earth when using Eagle Eye Intuition: Narrow your search area Horse Saddlebag Upgrade: Carry more in your Horse’s saddlebag Refined Binoculars: Specialized binoculars that make dig sites glow from a great distance Águila Machete: A classic machete restyled for the use of adventurous and belligerent Collectors Metal Detector: An important tool which can identify collectibles buried underground Equine Assistance: Collect herbs from horseback Horse Lantern: Light the path ahead with a lantern attached to your horse’s breastplate Valuables Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Valuables Pouch In addition to these new Specialist Roles, the Update will also include a vast assortment of new features and gameplay updates. These include new Role Free Roam Events that are unlocked as you progress through each Role; additional Stable slots; improved selling prices of Jewelry across the board; lootable containers in ambient wagons; more custom outfit slots and the ability to name saved Outfits in your wardrobe; weapons rebalancing to reduce reliance on headshots as the primary kill method in PvP and much, much more. 2

CosmoKramer
Have to say I’m firmly in the wait-and-see camp. It all sounds interesting but the GTAO experience leaves me a bit wary. Trader sounds worryingly like the warehouse business in GTA. I actually loaded up GTA the other day to finally check out the casino and immediately realised how little I understand the mechanics of that game these days despite having put hundreds of hours into it. The_Liquor
I have to admit, the camp business thing sounds very similar to biker businesses in GTA (only they haven’t released flying unicorns that sh*t always on target dynamite yet)... but overall I think it’s the kind of thing being asked for... butcher right at your camp? Hunt down anyone who gets a bounty? (And talk of jail time for the bad guy). Hunting wagons and bounty wagons? Attacking other business, or being attacked at camp or making deliveries... hunting other PCs with bounties... Personally it’s the purpose behind PVP I have been praying for

This can literally be added within a month and half if anything lets be real, most of its contents are already in the single player. by then ill be playing different games and i think a next gen console if i'm not mistaking lol Also doesn't excuse their lack of communication with the community, and the absent weekly "updates" where they can implement smaller improvements to the game and/or fixes to existing bugs or connection issues. We all know rockstar milks everything.nothing has been a surprise and for them to improve on the next gen console and make games better year on year they have to practice somewhere.those next gen consoles and the games coming aint nothing without all these mistakes and problems.and as for talking back to the community.mate they would have to set up a whole nother buisness just to do that.cant please everyone.gtav and rdr2 are platforms and a base for the future of gaming.no games compare to these.we just play and expect to much.but i do hear you on your points.you just gotta look at it both ways

Madrigalian
The only folks who ever really complain about how long these things take are those folks who have never coded an once of code in their lives. Those who have, tend to just sit back and hope they catch all of the new bugs this new code is going to cause, and encourage them to take their time with it. The fewer bugs the better. I'm looking forward to this update. Not sure on the whole "Roles" thing. But definitely excited to see all the new changes!

C20Dragon
Glad I've been grinding gold. 45 bars to unlock all 3 roles. That Bounty Hunter outfit looks cool. I want that eye patch & bandolier! Also looks like we will finally have a visible satchel from the Trader lol. Didn't see any info about it, but wondering if we will be getting a new rifle? Newswire quote:"In addition to the first three new Roles comes dramatic improvements to player control with quicker and more responsive movement across all phases of combat and locomotion; new Ability Cards;" I look forward to seeing what R* changes with the aiming & new Ability Cards too. Glad I've been grinding money for the new cards. Curious if we will have to spend cash with using tokens. To unlock new stuff? Newswire quote: "If the Bounty Hunter brings the target in alive, they’ll receive an award while the criminal serves time." That's interesting, wondering how that will work if you bring in a player. Player serves time in jail & has to break out some how. More likely will have a cut scene saying time served. Newswire quote: "Unique Bounty Hunter skills and items include: Kit Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Kit Pouch Tracking Arrow Pamphlet: A pamphlet recipe on how to craft Tracking Arrows" All the skills items look cool. But these two confuse me for the Bounty Hunter. Not sure what kit satchel is & how Tracking Arrows going to work? Newswire quote: "Cripps will begin turning the materials into sellable goods, which can then be sent out on low-risk local deliveries for payment or across greater distances for a premium." Can see this being just like GTAO, where you have the lobby able to attack you. I just hope when you start the delivery it doesn't show the entire server where you are with a color blimp. Also hope it doesn't message the entire server to come & attack the player delivering their goods. Like it did in GTAO. I would like it to be, if you get in the players radius you see the player. Since I'm a lone wolf, I might have to look for like minded souls to help protect each other doing the new roles. All in all everything looks good on paper, but will have to see how things pan out. Curious what you all are looking forward too. Which roles? All 3 or just 1. I looking forward to all 3, but mainly will start with the Bounty Hunter & Trader. Then mix in the Collector as I go.

NewsBot
We now know when the next major chapter in Red Dead Online is going to open and start. The massive DLC that Rockstar has been teasing for weeks is right around the corner and it packs tons of exciting new content for all fans of Red Dead Online to enjoy. Roles, new features, new abilities, new missions, new challenges and more are on the horizon. The main attraction here, which Rockstar has been pushing in previous teases of this upcoming update, is the new Role system. Roles provide a more structured way to enjoy roleplaying with your character on the frontier. Considering the large roleplaying community that sprung up around GTA Online, it makes sense that Rockstar would anticipate this for Red Dead Online and implement systems early on. You can progress with your chosen role by engaging in Pursuits. Each pursuit is tied to a role, and future DLC will be adding new pursuits and new roles periodically. Through pursuits, you'll earn special items, special abilities, as well as a large amount of RDO$ and Gold. Your role will accumulate its own XP as you complete role-specific activities. As was clarified before, you can have multiple roles at the same time, maybe even all of them at once - and this is probably due to Red Dead Online having a single character slot. Whenever you complete a bounty, you'll earn Bounty Hunter XP, while finding a collectible will grant Collector XP. As you accumulate role XP, you'll gain role ranks, and as you gain role ranks, you'll accumulate distinctions. A new distinction will be awarded every 5 levels, with a total of 4 distinctions available - Novice, Promising, Established and Distinguished. Ranks bring with them other rewards. These include Role Tokens, a new kind of role-specific currency that you can spend on role kits, which include a selection of items best suited to that particular role's activities. You also get access to special abilities. The Trader, for example, can train the camp dog to warn of impending bandit attacks, while the Bounty Hunter can duck for cover while on horseback. Let's take a look at the first three roles that will become available next week. The Bounty Hunter To start your journey as a Bounty Hunter travel to Rhodes and purchase the license from the Legendary Bounty Hunter. You need 15 gold bars to purchase a license. For a limited time, Twitch Prime subscribers will be able to buy role licenses for free. With your license, you can begin taking on bounty missions from bounty boards in various locations throughout the game world. Different missions will be of different difficulty, and the number of opponents will also change. Killing your targets will reduce your reward, but bringing them in alive will confer a nice bonus. In case you're up against a particularly tough opponent, remember to bring your posse along. As a Rank 12 or above Bounty Hunter, the opportunity to take down players with bounties will also be unlocked. These structured PvP encounters will require you to catch the player within an allotted time. They also have the chance to surrender to you. However, capturing them is half the battle - afterwards, you need to deliver them to the authorities, during which they have the chance to escape from you. Rockstar has shared a list of Bounty Hunter items and abilities: Focus: Targets glow red in Eagle Eye Reinforced Lasso: A lasso made with reinforced rope to keep bounties secure Reverse Spin: Perform a Reverse Spin with a single pistol or revolver Tonics Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Tonics Pouch Eagle Eye+: Track enemies while sprinting or galloping Spin Up: Perform a Spin Up with a single pistol or revolver Kit Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Kit Pouch Tracking Arrow Pamphlet: A pamphlet recipe on how to craft Tracking Arrows Reverse Spin Up: Perform a Reverse Spin Up with a single pistol or revolver Ducking: Duck for protection while on horseback Bolas: A thrown weapon, perfect for tangling the legs of bounties Bounty Wagon: A wagon for securely retaining bounty targets Perception: Receive a notification of bounties from a greater distance Alternating Flips: Perform Alternating Flips with a single pistol or revolver Dual Gun Spinning: Perform gun spinning tricks with two pistols or revolvers The Trader In order to become a trader you will need to speak to Cripps at your camp. Buying the butcher's table is the entry requirement and costs the standard 15 Gold Bars - unless you're playing on PlayStation 4, in which case it's free. As a Trader, you'll need to collect materials, initially through hunting and theft, to supply Cripps. He'll then turn those materials into goods, which you can sell for a profit. You'll need to deliver your product to customers and the further away your destination, the larger the price premium you'll get. As your business grows, you'll need to increase the flow of materials. A higher level Trader will have access to larger wagons and various camp upgrades intended to protect your investment, such as the previously mentioned guard dog. Take a look at a few Trader items and abilities: Stew Pot: A camp upgrade that unlocks stew recipes to boost cores Ingredients Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Ingredients Pouch Awareness: Identify rival Trader wagons at an increased range Canine Warning: Train your dog to warn of thieves raiding your camp Medium and Large Delivery Wagons: Upgraded wagons that can hold more goods for transport Weapons Locker: Store weapons for later use Lance Knife: A bespoke knife style available to Traders only Efficiency: Learn to increase the amount of usable materials from perfect carcasses Materials Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Materials Pouch Hunting Wagon: A sturdy wagon fit for carrying multiple carcasses, hides and pelts Protection: Reduce the chance of raids at your camp The Collector If you have an eye for hidden treasures, you should seek out traveling saleswoman Madam Nazar to begin your journey as a collector. Once again, the base price of the Collector's Bag is 15 Gold Bars, but you can acquire it for free if you are a player of GTA Online and have successfully collected all 54 hidden vintage playing cards added in the recent Diamond Casino and Resort DLC. As a Collector, you'll progress by finding or digging up hidden treasures and heirlooms. While individual pieces will fetch decent prices at Madam Nazar, true progress is achieved by collecting full sets. As you become a more adept Collector, your endeavors will be assisted by abilities such as being able collect items from horseback or use a metal detector. Other Collector items and abilities include the following: Divination: Sense when near collectibles Pennington Field Shovel: An essential tool for uncovering buried collectibles Potential: Detect disturbed earth when using Eagle Eye Intuition: Narrow your search area Horse Saddlebag Upgrade: Carry more in your Horse’s saddlebag Refined Binoculars: Specialized binoculars that make dig sites glow from a great distance Águila Machete: A classic machete restyled for the use of adventurous and belligerent Collectors Metal Detector: An important tool which can identify collectibles buried underground Equine Assistance: Collect herbs from horseback Horse Lantern: Light the path ahead with a lantern attached to your horse’s breastplate Valuables Satchel Upgrade: Store more items in your Valuables Pouch The new update contains a lot more than roles, however. New Free Roam Events, new features, gameplay rebalancing to reduce reliance on headshots, more custom outfit slots and a bevy of other additions await on the 10th of September, next Tuesday! CosmoKramer
Another slight concern about trader being what we all hoped for - it talks specifically about it being a ‘delivery’ wagon. Will this mean it won’t be something we can use for hunting? IIRC the delivery vehicles in GTA weren’t available to you except when making a delivery. How much effort is required to collect the cards in GTAO to save the 15 GB for the Collector role? Not that gold is currently a problem but I’ll be getting the other roles started for free so it’d be nice to have a full house...

MrPicard
From the first time I saw the new roles I knew I wanted to be a Trader but now I'm not so sure anymore, I don't want to deal with griefers attacking my deliveries and/or be forced to leave Defensive Mode when making a delivery, etc. It's too much like GTAO's businesses, which I don't do at all unless it's a Nightclub selling mission and I can find a session in which I'm alone or almost alone. I really hope it won't be that way, I'm just not cut out for this kind of stuff, I want to maintain my business in peace and without griefers. Ah well, at least the Trader business set up will be free for me since I'm a PS4 player, so I won't be wasting gold bars on something I don't like in the end. (And the Collector as well, I've collected the cards in GTAO, so if everything fails I can still try out the collector.) I'm really happy the update is finally coming though. Things WERE getting a bit... boring. (I am trying to be nice. lol)

Not that gold is currently a problem but I’ll be getting the other roles started for free so it’d be nice to have a full house... You missed the part about hunting wagons allowing you to carry more pelts and carcasses.

Things WERE getting a bit... boring. (I am trying to be nice. lol) It does sound similar to GTA businesses... yet not exactly. For one, we have the proximity based radar blips and I don’t see them changing it. Also, they haven’t made it overly ridiculous with overpowered DLC yet. Also, they mention spotting rival business wagons at a greater distance, so It sounds like the act of taking them out will be something more than ‘look, someone is doing something. Go kill them everyone.

Yep, TLDR Didn’t expect they’d be 2 types of wagon so once I read the first line I thought that was it for wagons. Not entirely sure why different wagons are needed... Well, if I’m buying a bulk order of quality goods from you, I sure wouldn’t want you to bring it to me in your dirty old bloody gut and carcass wagon... I was talking from a video game perspective, not reality. If the blood stains can wash themselves out of my clothes and off my horse’s back then a cart should be able to clean itself up well enough.
