  1. PHILIP CARLIER: SECLUDED SWAMP-DWELLER REQUESTED DEAD OR ALIVEPLUS TERRIFYING NEW MASKS, CLUB XP BONUSES AND MORE Law offices across the West have requested the immediate apprehension of Philip Carlier, wanted for embezzlement and the murder of a fellow employee of the Lemoyne Trading Company. Since the killing two years ago, Carlier has lived alone, on the fringes, in the swamps of Lagras. It is said that this isolation, combined with a taste for dissociative chemicals, has twisted the middle-aged murderer's mind. This Legendary Bounty is considered extremely volatile and should only be approached by the most resolute of bounty hunters. Pick up Philip Carlier's wanted poster at any sheriff's office to begin the pursuit and revisit the Bounty Board again after a brief period to replay the mission at an increased difficulty. With All Hallows' Eve fast approaching, Madam Nazar has obtained a smattering of masks that are sure to delight and terrify in equal measure. For a limited time only, she is offering masks for those indulging in the season - ranging from the horrifying Freak Mask to the macabre Swine Mask. Additionally, players who are in any of the three Specialist Roles will get a free mask. Licensed Bounty Hunters will receive an exclusive variant of the Creature Mask; Traders will receive an exclusive Swine Mask; while Collectors receive an exclusive Masquerade Mask -- all free of charge. Please allow 24 hours from logging into Red Dead Online for the masks to appear in your Wardrobe. Meanwhile, Outlaw Pass holders who have hit Club Rank 10 will get an exclusive variation of the Freak Mask while Club Rank 20 Outlaw Pass holders get this plus an exclusive variation of The Horror Mask. And Red Dead Online players who jump into GTA Online any time before December 12 can still unlock a unique colorway of the Slaughter Mask, sure to strike fear into even the sturdiest of hearts. And for the competitive; when the going gets tough, the tough get resourceful. This week's featured Free Aim Series is Make It Count, a true test of skill: using nothing but a Bow and Arrow or Throwing Knives to fight off opponents in a gradually shrinking arena until just one player is left standing. Good luck and godspeed. Collectors looking to cash in on Madam Nazar’s Weekly Collectible List can deliver the Cheaters Suit. Track down the Queen of Wands, King of Cups and Ace of Pentacles, then sell (or mail via the Post Office) as a full set before October 29th for your reward. And be sure to check the Newswire each week to see which items are in the Weekly Collectible List. All who take to the frontier in Red Dead Online this week will receive an additional 2,000 Club XP as well as a 30% XP Boost towards your progress in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. 2. My understanding was that it was the new architecture they went with was what supposedly made it too difficult if not impossible to run the PS3 titles from the PS4. Of course, they also had the PSNow service which was cloud based which allowed access to them. .....for a fee of course. Either way, it appears the PS5 will be compatible with your PS4 games but we still don't know about titles from consoles prior to that. .....although in my case, I don't really care to revisit PS3 games at this point with the exception of some remastered ones. Yeah, the controllers..... Never liked the XB ones and the DS4 versions were such an improvement over the DS3. I like the placement of the buttons, etc. Interested to see what the Dualshock 5 is like.
  3. PS5 for me. I've always been quite happy with their consoles regarding quality, etc. The biggest ding for me was not being backward compatible but that's changing with the PS5 and is also another reason I would want to stick with Sony. ....so I play some of these same titles I already purchased on my PS4 on the more powerful PS5.
  4. There are several of us even older than that. I recall a thread where many of us chimed in. .....I'm in my fifties myself.
  5. Hi Coyote and welcome.
  6. Player blips (unless you're hostility level is higher than normal) only show up on another player's radar when you are within 150 meters (164 yards). When you see a player on the minimap, they are just seconds away from being able to strike while on horseback. They can also be within sniper range. Anything on your minimap is potentially a real and immediate threat. I'm sorry, but if I'm making a delivery especially one that puts me in Offensive Mode, I'm not taking any chances. My posse / partner will either try to run you off or attack if you're that close. Most people simply run in another direction or give us a wide berth (while galloping away) just as we would in the same situation. When I encounter someone making a delivery or participating in a side mission that invites attacks we never ride toward, never stop near, never ride parallel, never ride in a heading that may intersect with their path, etc. Exceptions for me are in towns or other areas that players gather where I might give people the benefit of the doubt but still keep my guard up. I've been hit by someone in a similar situation before but chalked it up to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was off my horse near the road with them heading toward me and couldn't distance myself from them in time. It's no biggie. I would have done the same as it could have appeared as an ambush. The fact is, you don't know for sure if someone is alone or working with others just outside the 150 meter range. You can't see them but they could be on top of you within seconds. When someone is stopped and/or maneuvering slowly, it looks suspect IMO / IME. Just an unfortunate event is all.
  7. IIRC, that's because (in the scenario you paint) once they engage you, you are no longer limited in free aim and you can fire away at your aggressors without repercussions. The restriction is removed for you so you are better able to defend yourself but I believe it is still in play for the attacker(s). You can still fight back in Defensive Mode. You need to use it's features to your advantage though and get familiar with how it works.
  8. So who was it exactly that was making a delivery? The people that shot you? If that's the case, they may have misinterpreted the timing of your spawn near their delivery as someone suing an exploit rather than just dumb luck. To be honest though, I still don't see that as "griefing" but simply protecting their goods if that's the case. If I saw someone suddenly appear near me while making a delivery I would have done the same thing.
  9. .....I don't even waste time with emotes as I choose not to even interact with randoms. I'm usually in party chat or have everyone muted. I treat everyone as a hostile and always keep my defenses up avoiding those that I can.
  10. Yup......or he thought he was in defensive but actually wasn't, etc.
  11. I've noticed delays sometimes when it announced such thing as I log in but then I don't see them in my session. However, they would usually show up the next day when I log in or shortly thereafter.
  12. Just offering reassurance. Don't read too much into it Aval0n. Although it's rare that I get griefed, I don't dwell on those few instances that do occur. ....but again, a lot of it comes down to situational awareness.
  13. It does a lot more than you think but as we've been trying to say, you can't treat it like an invulnerability feature. You need to learn to use it to your advantage but always remember that situational awareness is key regardless. The Hostility System The Hostility system builds upon the anti-griefing measures added in February with smarter and responsive features that keep players immersed in the world through confrontations and PvP action. For example, players who have damage inflicted on them by attackers will be able to defend themselves without incurring Bounties or Hostility increases. Previously, the attacker and target would be marked as an enemy - now the attacker who inflicts damage will be immediately marked as an enemy to the attacked player; players will not accumulate Hostility increases for killing other players who are marked as an enemy. Hostility increases will not apply within structured events such as Free Roam Events, Free Roam Missions, Showdowns and Races. Engaging in player vs player behaviors related to Free Roam missions will not incur Hostility increases, however attacking other players not engaged in the activity will cause your Hostility level to rise. The Hostility System has many more functions and will help balance experiences for all play styles. Offensive and Defensive Playing Style Options Some players just want to immerse themselves in the world, riding, hunting and fishing in peace. We want to offer these options while allowing players to coexist comfortably alongside other players in the world. The Offensive Playing Style is much like the current Free Roam play as we know it while the Defensive Playing Style is a more evolved version of the Passive Mode concept, designed for Red Dead Online’s more grounded experience - giving players more flexibility in how they interact with the world and at the same time de-emphasizing hostile contact with other players. Choosing the Defensive option introduces balances that complement a less confrontational approach: Defensive players cannot be lassoed by rival players - although if a Defensive player lassos another player, they’ll be removed from Defensive play and incur a significant Hostility level increase. Defensive players will trade the ability to lock on to other players for the benefit that other players will not be able to lock on to Defensive players. While Defensive players can target and be targeted in free aim, they cannot deliver or receive critical hits – if a Defensive player is attacked with a headshot, they’ll survive and be able to defend themselves via the Hostility system or escape all while remaining Defensive. There are several other adjustments that come with the Defensive Playing Style, all of which are built to work seamlessly with systems like Hostility and Bounties to keep all players rooted in the world.
  14. As The_Liquor mentioned, Defensive Mode isn't the same as a passive or invincible option. You still need to be aware of your surroundings including other players as you can still be killed. Defensive Mode simply provides victims with an advantage over aggressors with several features that you don't get while in Offensive Mode.
  15. Let's be sure to keep that in mind in future responses. Neither I nor RDR2.org are affiliated with R* or Take Two. I deleted your inapproriate remark(s) in the other thread that you made. You also never answered the question as to whether or not you've still been in contact with R* Support. The fact is, they are really the only ones that may be able to help in this situation so while seeking assistance here is fine, it is also important to keep a case open with them to increase your chances of getting this resolved. My advice is to be persistent and don't let them close the ticket until you have a resolution to your case.
  16. As long as it doesn't stray into the toxic PC vs. Console poo-slinging fest we've all seen happen in other forums, social media, etc. .....that includes memes crossing the line of poor taste, etc. Personally, I don't get the whole "vs" thing anyhow being a PC gamer for about 20 years myself before switching to console. I see pros and cons to each and feel it boils down to what works best for each individual scenario including personal preference.
  17. It's a good community and good atmosphere too. Glad you like it and I look forward to seeing you around.
  18. Hi Saul and welcome.
  19. ....you should always be regardless. That sort of thing can happen at any time. Don't let it bug you too much though.
  20. Same here. I always hear people talk about getting bucked off these but if I'm going to be completely honest, it is very rare that I ever do. I rarely run out of stamina as long as I calm the horse down during long runs. Same thing when it becomes skittish. When attacked by wolves, etc., I keep the horse moving.
  21. I don't see a reason to remove it but I would suggest folks move along if they have no interest in the OP's thread. Let's keep the thread on topic and avoid derailing it please. @The Blue Hare, I'd suggest not engaging with these types of responses if you're interested in helping keep your thread on track.
  22. ......which might explain why and how they were able to hogtie you. If you're not interested in messing with others or being messed with yourself, I'd turn it on. When you're in Offensive Mode, it basically broadcasts to folks that either 1) you simply forgot to put yourself back into Defensive Mode or 2) you're ok with being attacked or attacking others. While Defensive Mode doesn't make you invulnerable to attack, it gives you a big advantage against your aggressor(s).
  23. Well, saying the mechanic is broken vs. simply not agreeing with how it works or not liking it is a different thing. Either way, the point was that folks are not "forced" into choosing long distance deliveries which are far riskier especially when riding solo like the OP is. It's obvious R* intended people to posse up for these missions. ....and when you do, it makes the job much easier as some will simply not take the risk engaging with you. ...and yeah, even short distance deliveries could have the potential for risk but far less so as you also get the advantage of being able to use defensive mode and are not marked. You just need to ride straight in and drop it off. If there are other potentially hostile players in the area, hopefully you can just make a beeline for the zone and beat them to it.
  24. Indascriminant harassment or killing of other players is essentially what defines trolling / griefing. They can dress it up as just messing around but when its at someone else's expense, it is what it is. .....and then the fact that they did it near their camp and then retreated back to it knowing you couldn't retaliate without being labeled an aggressor. Yeah, it's time to call a spade a spade. This is far from engaging other players in an event or mission that openly allows for that sort of thing. I wouldn't have rode that close but either way, I would have chalked it up to a bs move and not wasted anymore time with them.
