Cars in RDR2? Maybe?

I didn't consider cars being in it only because the last one we got a glimpse of them becoming "normalized" for rich people. Only the WAY higher ups and wealthy men of America would be able to get their hands on a car that early on.

Honestly, the idea of getting around on horses takes me away from the GTA style and is a fresh breath of air.

Exactly this. Why do we need cars or even want cars? GTA is cool for what it is and RDR is cool for what it is. I don't want to see both become the same game.

This alone right here tells me no. Just like Yellow said as well, cars were not something anyone could get that early on. Think of how cell phones were when they first started, computers, ect. only the wealthy connected people had them at first.

Yup! I guess if they wanted to allow it at much higher stakes, like if you became THAT wealthy in game, but then it would just be unbalanced.

As others said, the automobile was quite rare in the early stages of it's history. I doubt most in the nation would ever lay eyes on one during that time.  Beyond that, they were also very crude, not particularly fast, practical or necessarily dependable.   If they were going to be historically accurate, I could see no advantage for players using them in the game if they were to include them.

Horses and railways were still the go-to means of transport.

As for the first one as well. They showed cars but it was a few and far in between scenario. We are easily going back 15+ years from then so no way we will be seeing them. I would honestly hate it if they added them. GTA is for cars, this is cow boys and indians so it has to remain horses and trains.

Agreed.

I don't see it happening man. Reasons mentioned above are obvious. Not to mentioned 1911 cars were only becoming something people began to see which is awhile after this year.

Yeah I remember that in the first game. It was cool to see the few we did but only the wealthy people had them to boot.

Here's my take:

R* is most well known for their Grand Theft AUTO series. As such, it seemed a necessity for them to include an automobile in RDR. While you, as the player, got to ride in (and shoot from) it, you were never allowed to drive it -- which Rockstar later admitted was probably a mistake.

That said, they DO have ample opportunity to remedy that problem here. To the OP's point, there were some decent automobiles available in 1899.

With this crew being modeled after "The Wild Bunch," it's not outlandish to think that if one of those gang members had come across an actual automobile, they would have tried to swipe it for a fun joyride.

I can picture Dutch or Arthur discovering a single-cylinder 1899 Packard locked-up in a barn somewhere and taking it for a spin.

This would not only remedy the flak they got from not making the car driveable in RDR, but would also be a nice nod to their top franchise.

It'd make a fantastic heist mission: steal a car for someone jealous of a rival.

Hell, that'd make a nice little global event in the online portion.  Stealing cars and racing them for a limited time (maybe a week or 10 days), and you could unlock one as a mission reward.

Those old cars didn't move all that fast though did they? I am pretty sure a horse would be faster but I could be wrong. I don't need cars. Give me all the horses.

I think they topped out at 35MPH which, I believe, is a tiny bit faster than a horse.

Once again, Back to the Future 3 to the rescue!

In the scene where they're pulling the Delorean with a team of horses:

Marty: (Reading their speed off some sort of device) 24!

Doc: It's no use Marty! Even the fastest horse in the world can't run
more than 35, 40 miles an hour.

Secretariat? Seabiscuit? Maybe.

Dave the horse? 30. tops.

The car at 35-40MPH would still eek them out.
