Foxtrot pretty much summed it up. btw, why do you think people will hate you? They may not agree with your points (I know I don't) but that doesn't mean we hate you. Makes no difference to me if someone doesn't like a game that I enjoy or vice versa.3 points

I really think that this is the beginning of a great game. Think about it a little and you can see R* signature all over the whole free roam thing. Now they are starting to add some meat to those potatoes. It will be a long haul I think but eventually it will be the money machine that gtao has been for them. Patience is the answer here. It took them 8 months or so after full release to start heists and to get the other lobbies running. I will just keep checking back from time to time to see how it progresses but for now I think I will be taking a break from it to do some other new stuff that is out there.2 points

I would say that this game hit the sweet spot for old farts. Too old for Fortnite..............and to young for nursing home Nintendo.2 points

As some may know, I typically create a thread whenever R* announces a new update for RDO. Since updates may possibly coming out weekly now, I thought about taking another moderators advice and making a consolidated reference thread. However, instead of compiling all the update, promo and news info in one thread, this one will have links to each of the individual ones that folks can use for reference. I will still post individual threads on these announcements where discussions can take place, etc. but I will no longer pin them. Instead I will update this one (which I will pin & lock) with links to each of the threads. Hope folks find this useful. Since this thread will be locked, please message me if you have any questions about it. List of R* OFFICIAL UPDATEs, PROMOS and NEWS: 3/3/20 2/25/20 2/18/20 2/14/20 2/13/20 2/11/20 2/4/20 1/28/20 1/21/20 1/14/20 1/7/20 12/23/19 12/19/19 12/16/19 12/13/19 12/10/19 12/3/19 12/3/19 11/27/19 11/26/19 11/25/19 11/19/19 11/14/19 11/12/19 11/6/19 11/5/19 11/4/19 10/29/19 10/22/19 10/15/19 10/9/19 10/8/19 10/1/19 9/27/19 9/24/19 9/17/19 9/10/19 9/3/19 8/27/19 8/20/19 8/13/19 8/6/19 8/2/191 point

Are you trying to make me leave? Because your not trying to make me stay.1 point

I'm on the east coast. What times do you plan on playing? During the week I am on most evenings from 7 to 11 or 12. On the weekends I can be on most of Saturday. Sundays on many times.1 point

Where are you located ? I'am in EU timezone. Normaly playing in the afternoon and early evening. Mic present. Is it a closed team? I'am interested in your Posse team. Do you need Discord?1 point

i prefer head shots to let the horse carry them away, more witness to kill that way1 point

LOL nice!! Yeah I have actually, well, dynamite arrows, I love to just shut it all down, if I am going to ambush you for some reason and you have wagons or a caravan, etc.. Im blowing up the first and last wagon and then going to explosive shotgun rounds to remove heads one at a time, lots of fun, headless corpses everywhere.1 point

you can find all the song birds flying around the grasslands and hills south and soutwest of Emerald Station. Watch the sky for the small birds, they're easy to miss. sometimes you'll scare them up from the shrubs too while riding around. They're also all along the dakota river from where it empties into Flat Iron Lake up to the waterfall. ride the river edge and you'll find them sitting on the rocks and fallen down trees. random spawn, so i shoot every one i see to get a different (maybe) spawn the next time by. Riding from the waterfall at morning to the lake, then camp at the lake and ride back to the waterfall the next morning (usually takes a full day to ride that) got me all the song birds and other birds i needed, except the owl.1 point

I happen to think they put far too much effort into the silly animations that I can't skip like walking in and out of a stable, then they did on being able to use Dynamite to blow open a locked house... this is a constant battle between programmers and producers ... because the programmer is generally not ready when the producer is! I also despise the seeming randomness of wagon fencing1 point

Just a few pointers on how to deal with certain things in the game... you might find some useful, lumper. 1. Do the story mission to take out the ammo dump. You will be given free dynamite. 1a. Use dynamite to harass interlopers who invade your camp. It won't kill them but it will make them leave. No one likes being repeatedly blown into the air. 2. If someone steals your horse, whistle. Your horse will throw the rider and return to you. 3. If someone Lassos you, quickly pull out your knife to cut the rope before they Hogtie you. Once or twice and they usually give up. 4. In your situation I would highly recommend running several story missions, over and over, again. These are cooperative missions with 2-4 players. Don't worry, no one talks and half the time, sometimes, there is actually some teamwork. This would be a good way to make some money, learn from watching others, and not be in a competitive vs. mode with other players while you make some quick cash, get some good xp, and learn from watching other more experienced players. (and some not so experienced, as well) 5. Most of all, endeavor to have fun. As someone said above, death is pretty painless in this game. Getting killed shouldn't ruin your play. Just chalk it up to a speed bump and keep moving on. If someone is really dead set on harassing you, jump into a story mission or two and come back to free roam in a new lobby with new folks and your enemy will have moved on. Hope this helps! Yeehaw!1 point

You'll see (if you wish to), that there's a strong narrative and backstory woven into the story missions - it's far more than a standard CoD campaign where you run on rails killing things in ever increasing amounts. There's a lot more sensitivity here than there were in the GTA V mission strands; Rockstar is encouraging it's players to have an emotional connection to the main protagonist.1 point

Yes, there's an enforced learning curve here - it doesn't last long until you're let loose in the world to hunt and find gang members (and innocents) to interact and maim. Yes, you're confined to walking in camp. You'll soon learn that you spend very little time in camp, only really going back to start missions or complete some challenges and other tasks. The story missions are scripted and you don't really get to see what kind they are before you take them on. Some of them are optional, but missing them impacts your ability to 100% complete the game. The missions don't last that long, and you can skip a lot of the cut scenes if you so wish. Fast travel is opened up when you gain enough money to upgrade the camp - you then have the ability to fast travel to the towns that you've already visited. Trains and stagecoaches can also be used as fast travel mechanisms.1 point

I hope you find someone to help you out soon on XBox bud. It's not that hard to avoid trouble really. Spent yet another almost full real day online yesterday just hunting and fishing and didn't see one blue dot. The red dots were, as usual, entertaining themselves, on the other side of the map exactly where they spawned in. The join game, shoot anything that moves the second you spawn in mindset they have conveniently lighting them up for all to see and easily avoid for all eternity (or that session at least). Also, "EJECT" disc is a quick and easy dismissal for any online interactions you are not comfy with. Takes no time to restart game and leave the rubbish, ignored, in the bin.1 point

Ok, so I completed all 7 challenges again last night and this time I noticed that when I completed the last one, I got 40 gold nuggets instead of 10 so if you add up all the gold nuggets earned from all the challenges, it equals 1 gold bar.1 point

lol that's great. There was an old Hermit, I forget where but there was a cow running around on his roof. Shot it eventually...1 point

Won 4 Out of 7 matches and am stoked to receive my 8 arrows. Haven't got em yet but look forward to them being in my locker. If you haven't tried it please do ! I feel the same way bro, I'm level 140 got the 3 best horses & 3 of the best saddles all the guns in gold $9000 & 300 gold bars, the game is just boring me to death, there's nothing in the updates to keep me interested anymore.1 point

Get yourself into private session. Unlike passive mode, this session you can invite friend to join. Then you can enjoy the game1 point

Dude take time out from the game Check the game out in a couple of months. I'm a rank 134 with everything. And I am losing interest as well. Specially after they nerfed the hunting. Feel sorry for the lower ranks because the game has become a real grind now. The sad thing is players are been pushed towards microtransactions if they cannot tolerate grinding for hours.1 point

Yeah, I don't really do online versions of many games - there's always far too many people who want to make sure that you're not enjoying yourself. My lifestyle (being a mature adult) means that I'm not able to be online at set times so that I could session up with like-minded people. So I stay offline. I also played Far Cry 5, back when it first came out and loved it. You probably will as well, once you shake off the urge to mount horses and shoot at birds. I'm not sure that many things will be able to replace RDR2, I have just totally loved being part of that world.1 point

lumper, I feel your pain. I too have experienced the growing pains in this game. Most of the people on this forum are very helpful I have found. They can teach you the basics of this game. As far as getting killed in what ever you are doing is a pretty common thing here and save yourself the bother of trying to figure out why. I too started out the way you are playing with hunting, fishing and herb gathering to make some money and get a few xp while doing it. I have done that for about 3 months and did rather well on the money end but xp is quite a grind. I connect with friends when I can to do story missions and stranger missions. I want to stress on you to make sure and start giving your feedback to R* as much as you can during beta. If you want change now is the time to make it happen. I have been doing this daily to try and get different lobbies in this game like they did in gtao so that what is happening to you now would be easier to bear. I got some good advise on this forum the other day in the strangest way. Some people here told me to quit whining about this problem and perhaps I should not play this if I couldn't hack it. That this is "Wild West" and should expect some shooting going on. That some people want to be "Outlaws for Life" and so on. Well I know I can hack it cause lets face it when you get killed you don't loose much so no big deal so that wasn't the problem. Then it dawned on me that I am playing the game wrong. For the last three days I have been spending about an hour or so a day just hunting down other players and shooting them for no reason what so ever. Just cause I could find them. I noticed it didn't matter much what level they are if you plan it right you can do it. The cheesier the kill the better. Quite fun actually. When they complain I just give em the pat answers that everyone gives me. Be ready to jump servers cause believe me the makes em quite mad lol. My whole reasoning here is to get people to nag R* to make this crap stop. Until it is fixed I see no other way to play this game. You have no choice. Kill or be Killed. I am still low level so I die a lot this way but not really much more than when I was the victim.1 point

Hit me up on Xbone and I'll take you around to show you how to avoid people and grind for some cash.1 point

The varmint rifle can be quite deadly if you can master the headshot even after its nerfed. You can always practices on NPCs I recommend getting the bolt action rifle as soon as you can afford it. It's not that expensive and it's a solid weapon for both hunting and self defense.1 point

First of all, "Explore the world solo or with friends" is what Rockstar said in their promotional material, so maybe it is just because "it's a beta." https://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/60711/Red-Dead-Online-Beta Second, I play solo and I got griefed twice today while minding my own business. The first time, someone roped me when I was going for the fast travel hitch and dragged my body. I just let him have the body and loaded into another free roam session. The second time, I was spawning out of a mission and a level 155 (I'm 58 now) headshot me. I reported him then blocked him on PSN. After one or two encounters such as this happen to me, I say to myself "Well, I tried" and I investigate methods of preventing me from being griefed. The game is more enjoyable for me when I decide when and how I want to interact with other players...just as I do in real life. For you to enjoy this game as is, you are going to have to do some investigation. Believe me, there are people who feel as you do and they find ways to make this game enjoyable. Good luck.1 point

Good post @lumper it was fun, lots and lots of fun, i was addicted, just shy of 18 days total playtime in story mode on my first play through. but then i hit the burn out, I go all out and play something non stop like this and then it takes a lot of will power after it's over to go back and do it again. Love the game though, still think it's one of the best games ever made, just time for me to take a break and go shoot bad guys in The Division 2 tonight after work I still play now an then on weekends, doubt i'll ever play online, i don't have the patience to play with the spoiled little kids (or adults with the brainpower of little kids) online anymore.1 point

I mentioned this before, but.. Would love to see the world come just as live as the single player experience. That could include: ¤ Brothels in the saloon / hotels. ¤ Baths being enabled again. ¤ Natural Beard & hair grow. ¤ More clothing options / Adding Eye patch, bandoilers, ponchos, and more! ¤ Able to have a single pistol duel in towns. ¤ Add poker and the minigames. It was avalible in RDR, so why not? (Just use ingame cash, and not gold bars) ¤ "Help a Stranger" random events occur in the world. (Like in singleplayer) ¤ Put in legendary animals again, so you can craft speciel items. ¤ Add Heists, train, robberies. ¤ Add more missions. ¤ With a world as beautiful as this... PUT in the snow again when you enter the Grizzlys! it was aweome in single player! ¤ If you want to explore deep, there should be a reward for doing so.. Random Treasure chests. ¤ Let us own properties, be able to buy carts, and let us work on our own farm, for xp, money and more. ¤ Bring back the cinema in towns (its fun!! come on) I already submitted all these to R* , but i doubt they even care1 point

Yeah I'm on PS 4 pro and same thing happens to me all the time. I've contacted support and they tell me to clean the cache. Reboot the unit and hold R1 and L1 as game boots up. (One of the mods posted the details on another thread I believe) Honestly don't think that does anything, I think it's them. I like to say game has more bugs than a motel you rent by the hour Edit: This is their response to me,,, Thank you for contacting Rockstar Support. In your email, you've mentioned that you're facing issues with RDR2 Online. In an attempt to resolve these issues, I would like to try resetting the local user profile settings for the game. You do not have to worry about losing any progress, as this simply clears some temporary files associated with the game. I have the steps to clear the cache below. Please Note: Performing these troubleshooting steps will not hinder your ability to play or delete any save data/progress you have currently made. 1. Press and hold the PlayStation button on your controller 2. Select Turn Off PS4 3. Let the PlayStation 4 fully power down and wait at least 30 seconds 4. Restart the PlayStation 4 5. Hold L1 + R1 while booting up the game Note: This will also reset your brightness setting and choice of language. Best regards,1 point

Rockstar has a service through Akamai. Akamai has servers that you connect to in your area called edge servers. There are over 200k globally. These edge servers connect to the main R* servers, where ever they reside, and provide the content to the end users. These edge servers cache the data from the servers and pass back and forth data. The end consoles PS4 or XBox don't talk directly with the R* servers. In theory, this creates faster load times for, update downloads, and mission loading. Akamai does host many servers and services for many companies. How this impacts server disconnects, I am still trying to determine. For me, the disconnect occurred at the Akamai edge server. None of the above in my scenario would point to a peer to peer connection.1 point
