Personally, I spend maybe a day or two a week, no more than 3 hours a session. I’m not rich, but I never have trouble buying what I want. I have enough gold to fancy up my guns, pay for my roles etc without whipping out the credit card. I don’t have all my ability cards maxed out... or all the ability cards for that matter, just the ones I use. I’m not unstoppable PVP but I can put up a fight and don’t feel all that outgunned even by those over double my level.... Just play the game and your character will grow.3 points

The camp placement in online is based on session population, where everyone else is camped, the state / region you choose, etc. You're right that R* does not allow players to set up camp in precise points that they want but you can choose the region / area. If you feel something is broken or not working as it is supposed to (like the menu you mentioned), I would suggest opening a ticket with R* Support: https://support.rockstargames.com/categories/115001624507?redirect_lang=en_us&_ga=2.10373878.2106320704.1573495548-1472527368.1573495548 If you believe you have ideas that can make the game better, I would also suggest submitting your feedback directly to R* here: https://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadonline/feedback?step=decd9bdb Actually, posses of 1-4 players are free to create and join at any time. Persistent posses however are the ones that cost $200 but will allow up to 7 players to join together. There are also some other benefits as well. Friends can also rejoin posses without having to be invited as @Freakshow9191 mentioned. I just did it the other night with my friends persistent posse. In either case, it doesn't take much to send out invites in a regular posse. Again, you can still choose the state / region you want the camp in but yeah, you can't choose exact locations likely for balance, mitigating griefing / advantages, etc. I believe part of the reason R* doesn't allow sharing of in-game cash and certain other items between players is to help stem illicit activity like selling such things with real world money, hacking / cheating, etc. You can't exchange money in GTAO either. However, your friends can participate in missions with you and share in the reward / payments. btw, If you're have to play weeks at a time for 5+ hours a day to make $200, you're doing it wrong. I know you're new, but you are now a member of this community. Go ahead and take advantage of that. Read the threads or better yet, create your own and ask the questions you might have about things you don't know or don't understand in the game. There are plenty of people here to help give you answers, direction and advice. You can have one complete carcass of a larger animal like a deer on your horse, yes. .....but you're wrong about birds. You can carry two larger birds or smaller animals, snakes, etc. not just one. You can attach them on either side of your horse. Small birds/animals are stored in your satchel along with feathers, meat, etc. Again, ask around. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks around here who can help you maximize your profits on hunting trips. IMO / IME, the economy is hardly as bad as you are making it out to be. Of course you won't be able to buy everything right away, you need to be realistic about it. That is how the game is played and how the experience is supposed to be. IMO, things are a little too accessible in RDO at times. I'm about lvl 80 and have around $4,000 and 30+ GB IIRC. I really have nothing else I want to buy right now and haven't for a very long time. I have all the weapons I need/want, they are all upgraded and now it's just about horses (if I take that route), clothing and ability cards which I typically don't bother with much now. It's been this way for me for many months in regard to not really having to worry about finances. In the beginning, it's all about leveling up to help unlock certain items, weapons, etc. Along the way while leveling up, you are making money just playing the story missions, side missions, by hunting and doing other activities. IME, if you don't want to grind for money, just concentrate on the missions and other activities that interest you. Believe me, the money will follow. I simply don't pay much attention to what pays the most but just enjoy the game as we play missions and enjoy other activities together. I get that you're having trouble understanding how the game works, but to suggest others here "have no life" simply because they are more successful at it than you is a little silly don't you think? We all have lives but also enjoy games like RDR2 / RDO. This is a fan site and why we are all here. My suggestion would be to take some time and read through the forums. ....ask your own questions. Money seems to be sticking point for you so why don't you ask folks how to you can become more effective at making it in the game. Believe me..... There are folks here that have or make plenty of money to buy the things they need without having to play every day let alone 5+ hours a day. I maybe play 1-2 nights per week with periods where I won't touch the game for a month or so. Set the subjective notions aside and accept that perhaps some of your conceptions or ineffectiveness in the game may be in part due to your lack of understanding of how certain things work or how best to effectively tackle certain tasks / activites to maximize profits, XP, etc. I agree with @Harlock1796 and the others....... It sounds to me like you're not giving the game a chance. Then again, RDO simply may not be the game for you. RDR2 / RDO is very successful but that doesn't mean everyone will like it or understand how to play it effectively. Sounds to me that maybe even you just don't enjoy RDO / RDR2 which is perfectly fine and understandable. .....but you're blaming the game for that and most of your reasons simply aren't that sound IMO / IME which is why we're saying you're not giving it a fair shake. If you decide to stick with the game, make sure to take advantage of the resource here. We have a community of friendly folks willing to help. You might even consider joining a posse that can assist in showing you the ropes, help provide tips, tricks, do missions with, etc. Just visit our Posse Recruitment sub-forum.3 points

There are things that are wrong with the game but I don't think the economy is one of them. Prices don't stack up to a real world sense economy, true, but they make sense within the game. Nothing is too much of a grind to afford, unlike in GTAO. At the same time if there was no grind and you could afford everything you wanted within a week of playing a couple of hours a day the game would be long since dead. Since the roles update came out I can't understand why anyone would buy gold with real money to progress in the game, R* have made it too easy if anything.2 points

Rabbits require a Regular arrow or Varmint rifle shot to maintain quality. Small Game arrows are best used on "tiny" animals, like squirrels, chipmunks, songbirds, chickens, quail, rats, bats, bullfrogs, toads and snakes. Sometimes the Small Game arrow will merely graze your target and that will degrade their quality. You'll know if you get a light grey hit marker and see the arrow bounce off. A direct hit on the target will kill it and give you a perfect carcass, regardless of quality (except snakes, you must get a headshot on a snake) Muskrats also require Regular arrows, as I sadly found out the hard way... Cripps loves those muskrats!2 points

If you want it now, you pay for it. That is how a lot of these games function. It is not a pay to win game but a pay to progress quicker game. This is not to say it takes a long time to stack up gold and supplies nor does it take forever to level. Once you get going, you will actually find it becomes too easy to level up.2 points

This is the problem. I know a lot of people (myself included) who, just like CosmoKramer, it sounds like, run those two cards specifically to give a chance against the 'random headshotter' (to avoid the term 'griefer'). In fact, the only passive protection you have against those players is Never Without One. Bad people (AKA A$$hats) use the card because it is, all ways up, the most powerful card in the game. I really don't think it's sustainable to argue that NWO use = A$$hat player, unless you're arguing that everyone's an A$$hat. Maybe your actions are self fulfilling? If someone randomly headshots me, and knocks my hat off, I will then go after them until they're dead (usually several times, to make a point). So, we have the following scenario: - I ride somewhere in your vicinity with my usual card loadout. - you see S&S and NWO, and despite me making no hostile move, you decide I must be an A$$hat, and shoot me. - I take exception to being attacked in a random and unprovoked fashion, and come after you, guns blazing. - You feel justified in shooting me, because I'm obviously an A$$hat, you just managed to get your retaliation in first. - I feel justified in returning fire, and in using NWO, because it protects me from (apparent) A$$hats like you who will randomly headshot me while I'm minding my own business. That's no way to live.2 points

i tried to set a small camp on player menu or directly on the wheel menu, but when i click the place, the text starts flashing (like an error or something) and i get a message telling that it was set, but it never appear anywhere on the map. it's always available to set on menu, but it always results the same. anyway, if there's no need to rest online, then i'll just use the fire camps around to cook and craft.1 point
-
Setting up camp seems to be a little bugged for some. Also, I can't recall if it's lvl limited or not. Btw, you can cook at most fires that are "open". ...meaning that they don't have lots hanging over them, etc. I do this from time to time after clearing gang hideouts or when I run across them instead of riding back to my camp. Fyi.... In case you were wondering, you can't sleep in RDO because the passage of time remains constant unlike in the SP campaign.1 point

I don't know as I was about level 25 when the Poker update dropped and the Beta ended, and I didn't even think that there was a level requirement for it. Locations that I know for certain are the Blackwater Saloon, The Saloon in Rhodes (upstairs), The Station on the Eastern side of bard's crossing (I forgot its name). My guess would be a level 10 or 20 requirement. it won't take long for you to level up if you do stranger missions and hunting. Just be aware that there is a 25$ entry fee for every poker game.1 point

Honestly, I agree with everyone. Once you get the Trader role, money isn't an issue. I'm only level ~45 and I have 400+ dollars and all the guns that I need. Dual Schofields, Lancaster and a Bolt action, all fully upgraded. I bought the 25 gold bars when the update came out as I only had 5 so I could get the Trader and Bounty Hunter roles, but that's all I've bought. The grind for me is what makes the game fun, always doing missions and earning money for that thing that you've always wanted. However, the problem is that I already have everything that I want and the game is getting stale again. My Friend and I login A few times a week to do a few trader missions and the Legendary Bounty and mess around a little bit. I hope the next update comes out soon. Just do the Daily challenges for gold, and go hunting/fishing for cash until you get the Trader role. Other than that there's the Treasure map you get every 5 levels. Honestly, for Posses, I wish there was player trading but you can always also just set up a temporary posse.1 point

I use my bow only for dynamite and fire arrows as well. And if there is a pvp daily including bow. Tracking arrow for bounty hunter is a BS as well imo. Only for daily.1 point

Fullscreen is when the screen your using is dedicated to the game, ie no Windows menu etc. Windowed Borderless is almost the same but its actually a menu/borderless window, which is useful if you have several monitors and wants to use them with other windowy stuff. Or alt-Tab quicker to other windows or have them on top of the game window for any reason.1 point

When it first came out this was a big problem for online players like myself who just wanted to go out and enjoy the map. I was very frustrated at first, seeings how this was the first time I had ever played an online game and I didn't want to play online any more because of it. With the updates and changes that Rockstar made, you can play in Defensive mode and it made a HUGE difference. A big part of the beauty of both story mode and online is just trekking out and exploring so Defensive mode really makes it possible to do without being harassed by players who wish to gun down anything that flinches. ; ) I respect they are having fun but it was destroying my enjoyment. I can honestly say that after the updates, I really love online play now. I have PS4 version, XBoxOne version and now PC version. Online in all three is completely enjoyable.1 point

There is always all this hand wringing and talk of griefers. I've been playing online for almost a year now, and while I have had people shoot me for no reason, ( in an outlaw game, go figure) the overwhelming vast majority of players I've come across would just as soon wave. Kind of one of those things, like, people never post about all the people they pass without incident. They only post about the negative thing that happened to them. So that's all you ever see. I wouldn't let people's whining of griefers keep you from buying a great game. With defensive mode you get huge damage reduction, low visibility on the map, and opponents can't auto aim on you. Add those up and you can just as easily leave the area or find a safe zone and go about your business.1 point

When I was camped near Rhodes I spent a day hog tying people from the Manor and throwing them on my camp fire... I had quite the pile going....1 point

Yes I seemed to have fixed my problem, turns out it’s because my computer prefers Vulcan over DirectX12. Thank you for your guys’ help anyhow, it is appreciated!1 point

I would love to just be able to own a farm or have an actual home. The camp is fine and all that but it is so buggy half the time. If I had a farm or house, it would be in the same place all the time and not be shifting around the place.1 point

This sounds like a driver issue or a conflict with your OS. As Nasty mentioned, make sure your drivers are up to date and check that your OS is as well.1 point

Really love the coat on the Kentucky Saddler. I have a cat who is all black with white paws and a white marking like that on her face. If I ever come across one, I shall name it after her (assuming it is a female).1 point

I think I saw the exact same one, the dollar figure matches I accepted it but I think they hopped off immediately as nothing further happened, nothing appeared on my map. i wasn’t necessarily going to hunt the person down, twenty bucks ain’t squat in this game but I was curious as to how it looked.1 point

When you are rolling 7 deep there are none. Make sure to equip your knife before they rope you so you can cut out of it instantly. Get the reinforced lasso and get them back! For the most part I think people are trying to farm and not too many are looking to troll. I do feel for the Steam guys because they are going to get sh*t on by much higher level players next month.1 point

What video card do you have? is this a PC or laptop. I would start by downloading the latest drivers, there are game ready drivers for RDR2!1 point

Since the roles update, money isn't an issue. If you're new and can't afford a role, then money may be tight while you save up for it, doing low paying stranger missions. But that's just paying your dues, and earning your way up. I've never bought gold, and never will. But...I paid my dues, sucked it up and earned my way up, now I have more money than I can spend. If you're worried about a $20 Cripps resupply (10 minutes fyi) then you're doing it wrong. Posse: if people have been in your posse before they can rejoin anytime you have it formed. Unless YOU have too many already, or THEY are affiliated with too many. If someone has more than you, OR is better than you, that means they have no life, and no job. Wow, learned something new today.1 point

As @Harlock1796 said above, give it a chance as it really doesn't need to be full time to pay. I have four kids and two jobs, my wife has a career job, too, we're a very busy household. I bought the half price initial gold, bought the trader role, a few weeks later I'm rich and I play Saturday mornings and several evenings a week (but not for that long, generally - one long session but the others are just an hour or less while my wife does the kids' bedtime. Both Trader and Collector rake in a fortune. And with Collector you rank up very quickly so get to most of the unlocks, if you're in a hurry. It rewards patience (like anything worthwhile), but does not need massive numbers of hours invested to get somewhere. But then, I didn't try to run a permanent posse in my first week.1 point

I had my first one pop up last night - someone with a $20.70 bounty. However, by the time I tried to look them up (a handful of seconds) they had disappeared - don't know whether they server hopped, or something, rather disappointing, though!1 point
-
I don't think you're giving it a chance. I have a proper job, a family, a dog to walk, other time consuming hobbies, and I currently have everything I want and need in game, plus RDO$3,500 and 220 gold bars in the bank, and I must have spent another $3,000 on stuff I never use. I did buy the opening offer of half price gold bars, but I never really needed them. You only need to buy gold if you want EVERYTHING! NOW! Otherwise, it all comes in good time. Do some daily challenges to scrape together 15 gold (should be able to do that in 10 days, if you try), buy either collector or trader role, and the $$$s start rolling in.1 point

I haven't noticed anything too bad myself watching others play. I am waiting to get the game on Steam but I am watching people stream the game and a few YouTubers I watch are playing it both on and offline.1 point

No i like my bow and shots with that makes sound which higher the risk of prey in my surrounding going away. But yeah guess i have to! For an arrow that demands a bit of work to make 1 that is this weak is funny as ****. I know Rockstar is sadistic and its alright but this crossed the line Also while youre at it. Im roleplaying as an Bandit online and just feeding my horse doesnt make me a good person Make it more flexible asw ex that you get bad rep for giving the horse a stimulant, i mean my horsey friends wouldnt liked if i damn put an anabola in their beloved ones neck1 point

I second this. The game is amazing. Having played through the story completely twice and enjoying a bit of the online play, I am excited to finally play it on my computer. I started the story last night and I plan on playing more tonight. I will mess around with online over the weekend when I have more time for it.1 point

I had no issue with my controller connecting. 😊 Haven't had much time to play it yet though. My internet was out most of the day and keeps coming and going. Just waiting for the company to call back so everything can be reset.1 point

I've been using it for months now on ps4 it's much better than the ps4 controller plus you can use 4 different profiles for 4 weapons & change them on the fly, I brought it also to use on the PC.1 point

I’ve met him three times. The first time I gave him something, the next I shot him and dumped him in the river I was camped next to, the last time I tied him up and tossed him off of a cliff......so my experiment of killing him meant nothing as he is a stubborn son of a gun. He actually kind of creeps me out. I like the guy stealing beer more. 😀1 point

Modding is something that Rockstar likely won't be clear on till after it is released. If they don't allow it, I won't be bothered by it. If it is enabled, I just view it as a cost less perk to the game.1 point
-
I'm not a PC gamer anymore but I always look forward to what modders come up with in these games. I'm also not into RP (other than what the game provides) but I do find the world's those people create in the way of mods very cool. R* acknowledges and I believe welcomes what the modding community bring to the table in their games. They probably see it as a great opportunity for new and creative ideas to blossom as well as talent. ......it's not unheard of for modders to be hired by companies for their work. I would be shocked if R* doesn't allow modding in RDO although it may be some time before we see the tools made available. I just hope folks are prepared for that in the event they are delayed a while. Look at companies like NWI. It was essentially created by a group of modders using Half Life to create Insurgency. ....and now Insurgency Sandstorm which is it's own stand alone game and slated to arrive on console next Spring. ......good stuff and I'm glad companies like R* recognize the value of the modding community.1 point

I must take @Harlock1796 side on this. We usually have at least 2 or 3 posses running at any given time and most if not all have nwo equipped to prevent the one shot grieve kill. Our main rule is the Angels will never ever fire the first shot. If an Angel dies by hostile guns we don't care what your motive is or your fears are your going dirt napping my friend. Believe me !! We bother no one ever ! And again we usually have have at least 14 to 21 guns riding at any given time. Go ahead and shoot one of us because we have nwo. You will receive no mercy my fellow gunslinger. Happy trails !1 point
-
So anybody that's trying to give themselves the best chance of survival against griefers you shoot on sight? Interesting.1 point
-
I know how you feel, each of us has been through some very similar stuff. One thing I can tell you, if they shoot your horse, it sucks because you will lose your carcasses and stowed animals but thats it, you can call in another horse from the stable if you own one, or sometimes you can save your horse with revive. If you have a second horse you will be able to call it and keep fighting. Shooting your horse out from under you is a means of stopping you from escaping and from getting to your weapons, so no people dont care about the $4, although I think it should cost a lot more.1 point
-
Thanks to all of you for your replies. I guess I will have to just keep my guard up at all times but it makes it a bit stressful. If I am honest, I can recover from being shot but they go for my horse deliberately and that does actually make me a bit angry. I know they are supposed to pay a damage fee but they don't seem to care. Thank you for the advice and hopefully RS will improve this all with the upcoming Spring update.1 point

I am finding many new players, lower ranked players, are starting off and experimenting and often are aggressive. So when you see blue blips, and they arent obvious until they are upon you, when they act aggressively it makes it tough, the whole point of blue vs red was to protect the blue non aggressive blips from the more aggressive red blips. I dont know why they arent upgraded to red as soon as they attack a few people, but it seems that many are not. The problem with this is you cant trust them, so I have been telling new players (I met a level 5 yesterday) how it works, but I had to add to my advice, "lately blue blips under level 25 have proven to be hostile, so be careful, when you see anyone approach you at speed especially just be prepared for a possible fight, have your weapons ready and if you have a mic use it, introduce yourself, ask them not to grief you, tell them what you are doing , I find this can diffuse a lot of situations, I know it stopped a few attacks in my case." It doesnt always work, but it does help. Also, any player can spend gold to buy their honor back, so a red blip can be a blue blip anytime they want for some gold in game. When I see three new players, a level 5, a 12 and a 14 hanging around a level 61 all in a posse and all around Rhodes lets say, I know enough to avoid the butcher in Rhodes for the time being. Its not that I cant dispatch 4 newer players I just would rather not lose my carcasses and stowed animals if I am in a grind for something, I will wait them out or go to another butcher, whereas if I see the same thing, 4 players, but over level 61, say a couple 125's and a 90 I know 90% of the time, they arent griefers, even if they are red blips, and getting to the butcher wont be a problem, so... take it for what it is, know your place and dont trust anyone 100% but new players the least, as they are unpredictable.1 point
-
Isn't blip colour just based on honour status? So you could have low honour (pink blip) from killing NPCs merely to access the low honour missions and have no intention of attacking any other players or you could have high honour (blue blip) from skinning animals and roam around intent on griefing other players. It doesn't take much skinning to get your honour back up. Either way, I treat all players the same, potentially hostile until they prove themselves otherwise. The only players I shoot on sight though are the ones that come running at me with a lasso in hand or continue to head towards me after I make several changes of direction.1 point
