I'm a random hat tipper, too - I very often get a wave or a thumbs up back, only very occasionally does it turn into hostility and as I'm facing the other guy and ready I can hold my own. So if you see a smartly turned out gent (blue frock coat, fancy vest, twin pearl-handled LeMats, natty pair of striped trousers - with a curly moustache (think Doc Holliday with a worse barber) give me wave and I'll reciprocate. If we're really hitting it off I tend to feed the other player's horse, I love a bit of horse care. I was racing around a corner in the middle of nowhere earlier in the week, clattered headlong into another player, racing similarly quickly (s/he didn't appear on my radar until we hit, and I guess I was similarly invisible), unhorsing us both. My horse was fine but the other player's stayed down, wounded. Rushed over, revived the horse for them, gave it a pat and a couple of carrots. I got a thumbs up and a war cry for my trouble. It was a lovely moment, out there in the bleak wilderness. So it does happen.3 points

Thank you for your very thoughtful and detailed reply. I genuinely appreciate it. Thanks to you, I now understand parlay and other game mechanics that I didn't understand before. Let me clarify a couple of things that people have missed or misunderstood about my post. I don't mind if another player kills my character. What I do mind very much is that they kill my horse. It would take far too long and be too personal to explain this, but I don't play RDO for the game. I play it for the horse. So my big question about parlay is this: what happens to your horse while you are in parlay mode? I have two horses and have insurance on both, but it is still genuinely painful to me when they die. Yes, they are just pixels in a computer, but again, there are personal reasons why this matters a great deal to me. The other thing I wanted to get across is that this game mixes players of all levels without providing any substantive protection -- or maybe the better word is separation -- between new and low-level players, and much higher level players. I don't know where the cutoff should be, but new and low-level players should have the ability to totally opt out of all pvp until they reach a certain level. If they wish to participate, that's fine, but they should be able to opt out. I just got to level 40 tonight, so maybe that's why I think 40 would be a good level to remove that protection. 40 is when you can get the third passive card. I have two cards at level 3, so now have some reasonable self-protection, plus I now know enough about weapons, food, tonics and how to protect my horse.3 points

I’m pretty sure your horse can still be killed... that being said, I went through the whole beta phase and I can tell you I’ve died a whole lot more than Red Liquor... I don’t know why your horse getting temporarily killed would bother you so much (I’m sure you have your reasons) but you have to accept the fact that having your horse out puts it in danger.2 points

I recommend just keeping an eye out, especially with "black Friday" coming up, you might find a great deal on one. There are also quite a few Wacom units on the used market, and used Wacom in good shape is usually a good bet, just the normal precautions apply as for any used electronics. The great deals are out there, you just have to be persistent and ready to move on it when you find it.2 points

It's not useless. No offense but It would help if you knew how these mechanics function so you can best utilize them to mitigate the issue with griefers: Press Charges: When a lower Hostility player is killed without retaliating they will have an option to “Press Charges” during the respawn period, which will enforce an increase on their attacker’s Hostility and Bounty value. Press Charges is not available if you are a high Hostility player or marked as an enemy to the player who killed you. This feature will help further increase the player's hostility and bounty while also making them more visible to others. .....others who then in turn could engage them if they wish to do so. The function in itself does little to stop the griefing (unless someone is worried about their hostility level making them more visible to others) but gives the victim some level of recourse to help identify abusive players. However, when used in conjunction with the next feature we're going to discuss, that's when these options are useful..... Case in point.... One has absolutely nothing to do with the other. As mentioned, Parley in RDO isn't a "sit down" with the offender so you guys can talk it out. It's simply a time out of sorts to allow you to get away from the conflict. It works by spawning you further away from the action and puts a timer (10 minutes was mentioned) where neither you nor the attackers can harm one another. This is meant to allow players time to escape the area and go about their business if they wish. The "Press Charges" function merely gives the victim who wants to flee some sort of recourse. Alternatively, you also have the option to Feud with your attackers instead of selecting Parley. ....if PvP is your kind of thing. R* has been tweaking this system for a while. Initially, you could only Parley after being killed 3 times by an individual. That meant that larger posses could take turns to the point where it would seem you would never get the option. Earlier this year they changed that so you only have to die once to initiate the option and it applies to their entire posse (not just the individual player who kills you). Defensive Mode can also be quite useful as others won't have the advantage of auto aim (neither will you), lethality/damage is decreased toward your character and you have the option to retaliate against your attacker(s) without a penalty to your hostility level if you choose to do so. Level has little to do with any advantage players have over one another after a certain point IMO / IME. .....lvl 90 or thereabouts I believe is the last unlock for specific types of ammo as I recall. I see low level griefers, high level griefers and ones in between. Trolls will be trolls. Use the systems available to you to help reduce their leverage against you whether that's a higher level or numbers of players Again, that was my point. If I were you, I would take some time to first learn how these defensive mechanics / options work and use them. Initiating Parley in that scenario would have helped save you a lot of frustration as the first death would likely have been their only action against you. btw, just because I mention using the tools available in the game to help counter griefing doesn't automatically mean I condone the action or relish in your misery. I'm trying to help here. Perhaps I can tolerate it better than you because I use the systems the game provides. While not foolproof, they help cut short the griefer's fun and / or help mitigate the problem all together. Besides that, I also use strategies that I have since the game first launched when everyone was visible on the radar at any distance, Parley was essentially useless due to how many kills it took to implement, there was essentially no hostility system, no Defensive Mode, etc. If you're really bothered by the possibility of being griefed again and/or are in a similar situation, my suggestions would be: Start using Defensive Mode if you are not already. Learn how it works and use it to your advantage. For Pete's sake, use the Parley option if you are killed by a troll or otherwise in a situation where you want to avoid being continually griefed. Don't trust randoms. .....period. If I see a blue dot on the outer edges of my radar, I know they see me so I take action right away especially if I'm alone. .....that action includes getting the hell out of Dodge before they can rush me. My horse is always kept next to me when I play solo so I can be on it and running before someone is upon me. Assuming you're in Defensive Mode, zig-zag while riding away from a potential threat. This makes it much harder for them to get a shot because (remember) auto aim is disabled while in Defensive. If you're worried someone will follow you, run from the area until they drop off completely on your radar. At that point, change your course a few degrees. .....follow another road, get off the road you're on, use the terrain to your advantage, double back if possible, etc. Remember, as long as your hostility is low, if you can't see them on your radar, they can't see you either. ....use that to your advantage. Consider keeping your gun drawn near randoms if your willing to defend yourself and never turn your back on someone. Even when riding away I will still watch them. When with a posse, we usually spread out when passing by randoms and keep our weapons ready. .....again, someone or all are always watching their moves. The lead will usually stop and turn toward the potential threat until the rest of the posse passes. When spawning into the game, choose a state that is a couple regions away from where you plan to go. The game tends to spawn most players in the same general area. This helps reduce the chance of running into people. I've been doing this tactic since I first discovered how the spawning worked early on. This also goes for missions that reinsert you into new sessions. Consider joining a posse as was suggested. There are plenty of folks looking to recruit or simply find another player they can have fun with. Just having one more friendly player can make a huge difference. Sometimes just being in a posse is a deterrent in itself as some griefers will simply not bother with you. Lastly, don't take it so personal. Griefers grief because they want you to be upset by their actions. Don't give them the satisfaction. I rarely get griefed (and I mean rarely), and most time it's due to my own fault and I see it coming. .....sometimes it's simply out of curiosity to see what they will do. The thing is, I don't let it bother me too much. I use the tools, modes and options available and move on. Just because I tolerate the few times I am griefed doesn't mean I like it. .....but I'm also not making it easy for them by ignoring the options made available to me to help mitigate the problem.2 points

After a very long day a couple of years ago helping my 14 year old daughter achieve something utterly pointless to everyone except her (7 hours of waiting to get a photo with a minor celebrity) I achieved a minor form of Zen, and nothing much bothers me any more. When you add in my philosophy that everyone's a tosser until they've proved otherwise, people have very little capacity to disappoint or upset me, so I find it easy to let stuff go when someone acts like a complete a$$hole - it's no more or less than I might expect. That said, if some d!ick comes after me in the way they did @Av0lon, I wouldn't be letting it go, either, but that's because its fun. I don't know why, but with RDO I seem to have finally found the online shooter that I am better at than most other people. If I go online on CoD, Battlefield etc, everyone including my 13yr old son hands me me my arse on a plate, but on RDO, at level c170 and fully tricked out with cards and special ammo, I fancy my chances against most people, whether in freeroam or showdowns. It clearly had stopped being fun for Av0lon, for completely understandable reasons - that's a totally unfair fight by anyone's definition, and the right plan there really was to let it go and move on. I'm with you on the dislike for people that do that, but I do think that the Parlay system (except when you're not offered it, for a reason I don't understand) tends to solve most problems. You will always get the odd person who finds a way around it (dynamite arrows, basically) but its usually costing them more (a dollar a shot) than it's costing you to get killed.2 points

Since the release of the game, players playing online using free aim, would only be placed in a game with other free aim users. Attempting to change the setting to aim assist whilst in game would result in a message saying this option is unavailable with this game mode. It appears that since todays patch, this is no longer the case and auto aim users are being placed in game with free aim users. You can test this by changing the setting now whilst in game. I'm seriously hoping this is a bug or oversight and not an intended change1 point

The game was in Beta on consoles from November till sometime in April or May IIRC. Of course there are going to be issues when it gets ported to a new platform. Give it a few weeks for them to iron out most of the major bugs, and in the meantime submit a ticket to Rockstar.1 point

The campaign is really stocked with content and if you don't rush and explore the various side missions / activities, it will take you a long time to finish the game. ....so for me, a couple extra activities, etc. is likely not worth the extra amount especially if you have no interest in the rest of it. Remember, there is also the online portion where you can essentially start your own story for your own character in the RDR2 game world.1 point

Not that I know of. If it was an SLI setup you would be required to run in Fullscreen or SLI wouldn't work. Why don't you just give it a go in the benchmark and find out?1 point

Yeah, between the boy, and Shakey, and joe, etc...there is a pretty good crime syndicate in place. You could go to hideouts or some syndicate rep walking around towns to receive difficult robberies, and such, much like choosing things off a bounty board. I like it. In the meantime ya gotta be your own outlaw. When bored we play a game of "stay out of MY town" where we deny entry into valentine and hold it as long as we can. Usually turns into a multi posse firefight, tons of action.1 point

Hey I made an account so I could give u guys the solution. I've tried everything from putting my pc on a dmz, changing dns, port forwarding, etc, etc. It turns out that the solution is to use a VPN. I used protonvpn (I think, not at pc right now) but it was free and it solved my problems. So if you haven't tried a VPN, give it a shot. You will stop disconnecting, a freind of mine had the same problem and it also fixed his. Edit: I also tried that lasso program, it didn't work for me.1 point

I think they're messing with you, a bit. You don't need those things to hunt herbs, but using Eagle eye (the dead eye type thing that you can do without a gun) makes finding herbs much easier. Just go stand in a prairie, engage eagle eye, and look for the clouds of glowing dust. Every herb is worth 25c at the doctors - 5 minutes will get you enough for a healthy stock of ammo, and then you're back in business.1 point

Nothing since that long interview a month or so back, which definitely suggested an outlaw role was on the way. I'm not holding my breath - remember how long the last update was trailed for, before it showed up, and we haven't even had a sniff of the next big update yet. If it's here before April I'll be pleasantly surprised.1 point

You're not alone finding the horses a key draw to the game. The animation and intuitive movement is incredible and I really feel a bond with mine (and in real life I'm into old cars not horses). But also - my kids got me the game for Christmas, three boys and a girl (aged 6, awwh). I have four horses in the game, one for each of my kids, and I take it incredibly personally if someone messes with them or tries to hurt them. Messing with me is fine if sometimes upsetting depending on the context, but if someone comes at one of my horses I will pursue them to the gates of hell. It's minty meat and special ammo all the way. I have the gunslingers choice card (I think that's it) purely for such horse-attack moments. (Sorry all, I seem to be leaning towards off-topic posts today. Apologies. Trying to provide reassurance to another player that they aren't alone, hopefully there's always space for that.)1 point

No problem. I can't say I relate to your situation but I can understand some folks creating real life connections in games I guess. As for Parley, I believe your horse is also protected but just as important is the fact that your are spawned away from the immediate area when activated allowing you to escape. Without it, you will be spawned near the site where you were attacked and still within striking distance of your aggressors. Personally, I think your too fixated on the level thing. It really doesn't have that big of an impact on the gameplay IMO / IME. Sure, weapon selection is a little limited at first but it doesn't take long at all to get a decent rifle and shotgun to help defend yourself. .....then better weapons as you progress. ....and more lethal ammo, etc. I've been playing since the game released and I wasn't lying when I talked earlier about how little we had in the way of protection from griefers. However, even back then my encounters with trolls were few and far between. A lot of that had to do with how I interacted in the game world as I explained. I saw people back then get frustrated and we even had several big threads about it where some of us shared tips and tricks, suggestions, etc. to help players mitigate the problem. These days, a lot of the anti-griefing measures have really helped like the proximity blips, Defensive Mode, improved hostility system, the revised parley, penalties, etc. You have to remember that there is also the option to join a posse with friends or even randoms. ....not that I think that is necessary because with the anti-griefing features, good situational awareness and some proactive techniques / tactics, folks really shouldn't have that much of a problem. ....just realize that it can happen but be prepared to move on and don't give the trolls the benefit of your time. .....unless of course you want to.1 point

Hi everyone. Im here to share how me and my friends are feeling when we play FREE ROAM ONLINE as it says when u join in FREE << ROAM << 🤔 I will make it real simple. 1. I want to make a camp. Sure, but sorry we (Rockstar) decides where you should put your camp. How is this a nice way of doing it? We are Outlaws and we want to make a camp. And we make a camp 5m from a damn road? Really? Not only that the set up camp is broken from L-MENU. So you haft to do it by clicking TAB-set camp and then where and it works. 2. POSSE as they calling it. You create a POSSE and you BUY a POSSE for 200$!!! And you think nice now we have a gang. No. Everytime someone joins your session or you invite them, you haft to invite them to your POSSE again even tho you did it 100times before. And not only that, you make a gang and a camp witch (Rockstar) decides where my camp should be. Your members cant even share money with you as a thank you for buying a posse for 200$. Or to upgrade the camp. No. . . nono. You haft to farm all that fk $ and upgrade the camp witch will take prox 2-5 weeks? If you play at least 5 hours a day. And that is just the camp. As (Rockstar) thinks everybody dont have a job so we have time for it right? But hey! You dont haft to play 5 hour + each day>>>>> Buy GOLD! 😴 3. TRADER (YEAAYY) When you are out of supplies you need to do a mission! He ONLY TELLS YOU ABOUT THE MISSION but hey no direactions or what you really need to do. No lets make a big clue about it so you haft to buy the supplies. And that will take you what 3hours to wait??? My lord kill me. 😱 4. Funny fact we all know you can have 1 deer on your horse and drag 1 by lasso. But birds? Well you can hang one on your horse but not 2 noooppee sorry birds are to heavy my friend. They probably weighs 200kg each right? 🤪 5. We all know its $$$$$$ yes. Like i said before prices are good right? Well if you want to hunt, and have cool experience just hunt with your lasso or rifle you have. Because a bow costs 130$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah that seems legit. Cool. End of story right? To end all of this, i dont need to keep going. Its pretty clear, that you need no life with no job but if you are a youtube content guy/girl that has gaming as a your job. Well this game is for you. 😃 Game looks amazing in so many ways. Sad to say tho, im not playing a single min more on ONLINE. They really ****ed it up 10x times. Who is hyped for RedM? Legit prices and legit payments for jobs? Word. Peace out love no hate on the game. 😂1 point

Great first step. Money isn't such a grind anymore. I honestly hope they don't add too much else right away, just refine and add depth to what we have. And iron the bugs out. Favorite addition? Weapons locker!!1 point

It's been brought up before but R* has pointed out that they are really not interested in dividing players like that. Right, wrong or indifferent, they want RDO to be an all inclusive experience. Obviously, this will disappoint some who want specific modes like free aim, passive/private/PvE, etc. but it's what they have been driving towards and the reason they've taken the stance they have on griefing.1 point
-
I have a split viewpoint on this. I can definitely understand and respect players who wish to be left alone. Problem is, a lot of people want to be left alone. The players who I encounter who don't are typically griefers (although there aren't a lot of those), and sometimes people like me who want to be able to interact with other players. Not necessarily joining their posse or going into VC with them, just sorta sharing a drink or looking at each other's equipment, horses etc. This is a problem though because, as I said earlier, a lot of players want to play alone. So whenever I ride by, emoting them, I get shot out of the assumption that i'm going to whip out my Schofield and murder them. We then get in a firefight as we both believe we've encountered griefers. I don't think avoiding all players and shooting anyone who does anything other than ride past you is the way to play the game. Just my 2 cents though.1 point

I wouldn't say that Keyboard and Mouse is better then a game pad. Look at NickMercs on Fortnite amazing player puts most people on K&M to shame. I guess there should be an option so you can play with only other people who have K&M. If there is PVP do game pads on PC aim assist? Thats crazy!1 point

Another problem in the game is your horse not willing (or able) to come to you quickly to allow you exit the zone of hostility. Yesterday I spawned in Tumbleweed (joining a friend's session - I usually log off out of towns and pick up from there next session) and there were 4 red dots on the radar - 2 posses going at each other. Unsurprisingly I take a hit but not enough to down me but I can't get my horse to come to me so have to escape on foot (with the weapons I had equipped from my last session). I'm also disadvantaged as I have no idea who shot me so I can't easily retaliate. At rank 250 I well understand what the game is about and I'm fine with the potential for hostility but repeated shooting of a disinterested party is something I hate and I sympathise with those that experience this. The game mechanics do not offer enough useful options to the griefed party and that will end up with RDO in the same place as GTAO where only the tossers continue to play in the long run.1 point

Aside from Wacom, which is certainly not budget friendly, your two choices for anything of acceptable quality are pretty much X-Pen and Huion. Both of these companies' tablets were, let's say, less than stellar performers starting out, but really upped their game in the past couple years. I am assuming, of course that by tablet you mean the WYSIWYG LCD drawing tablets, and not the old style digitizers that have no screen. (Those are still around but becoming rather obsolete anymore.) There are a number of YouTube reviews on the various models, some of which can be found in the sub - $300 range for the smaller ones. There is also the used market, but given the unimpressive performance of the older X-P/H tablets, I'd avoid them. Wacom's patent on the RFID pen has expired, along with most of their other patents, so we are starting to see a lot of good tablets coming out now that don't require tethered or battery powered pens. You will see a lot of cheap LCD tablets with unknown maker's names, I'd recommend to avoid them and stay with one of the big 3 makers already mentioned. Most of the off brand ones are basically Wish.com knockoffs. Like everything in life, you get what you pay for, and it pays to educate yourself before purchasing, so go check out those YouTube vids.1 point

Personally, I use the varmit rifle and the bolt action for 99% of my hunting. The how, when I’m in the mood is mostly for deer sized game for me. I’ll break it out if I’m running low on rifle ammo and still want to hunt on my way (you get your arrows back). I do have the small game pamphlet, I just never bothered with them online. it’s also good if you’re soloing a hideout or a bounty hunt and you want to thin out the enemy population a little bit without raising an alarm...1 point

Well it is up to each individual to get what they want, if you dont care about graphics or resolution then 1080p is fine, its damn good actually, it just isnt as nice as 4k, especially 4k @ 60fps.
