February 26th Update concerns & discussion

I had no idea that much stuff was being fixed or updated. Good to know. I did play the day it got updated for a bit but haven't played since. It didn't seem much different from what I saw. I am going to be playing a lot this weekend though. Fingers are crossed I don't run into any major issues.

Is anybody else having problems loading the story missions online? One or two out of 10 will load for me if I'm lucky. All the other times, I get the loading wheel spinning for 5 or 6 minutes and I have to close the application.

Can confirm.  I had multiple instances where I joined a lobby, but even when it was full, the timer never counted down, and players could not ready up.

I couldn't even get past the matchmaking option... I would choose to enter matchmaking and that was as far as I could get. The one time I made it to select ready up, I was kicked ironically.

Ayup. For the first couple days I could play, but it would drop me every 30-40 minutes.

The last 2 days, I literally cannot log into Free Roam. At all.

I’ve tried (I stopped counting) 25+ times at 4 different times of day, across 2 days. I tried 3 different locations each time... ‘Where you left off’, then New Hanover, then West Elizabeth. Each time I get one of two things...

1. The infamous “You have been disconnected from Red Dead Online due to a fault on Rockstar game services 0x20010006

or

2. I see the landscape, my toon is painted onto the screen. I can move for 3-5 seconds, then the game crashes and I see... #1, above.

I’ve changed literally nothing about my network, router, or PS4 since the update. I’m DMZ’d on the console, on a 100Mb connection, etc. East Coast USA. Everything else works like a charm. Every app, game and streaming provider. Everything except this PoS game. I even tried turning every other device in the house OFF just in case it was bandwidth.

Mmmmmmm... NOPE.

So... yeah.

One of the only two things I asked for in the ‘hopes for a new update’ thread was better stability. I sure as hell didn’t get that.

Guess I have to move onto something less insanely masochistic for awhile. That Hitman 2 thumbnail has been staring at me for awhile now on the home screen...

Pretty much sums it up for me... while I was venting to rockstar support last week, I did advise they are on the Fallout 76 path to failure

Sometimes the best intentions can backfire, and based on community feedback that has gone up on social sites since the 26th of February, the latest content update for Red Dead Online has kicked up a bit of a controversy.

It appears many players believe that some of the new features were implemented in less than ideal ways, while new systems intended to combat griefing simply exasperated the situation.

One particular, rather strongly worded, Reddit thread has gained over 26 thousand upvotes, indicating that a large chunk of the playerbase agrees with these issues.

Large swathes of players expressed disappointment in Red Dead Online considering how universally praised the single player portion of the game is.  The online mode has been struggling to get on its feet since release, but then again that's what Beta phases are for.

Keep in mind that Rockstar is open to receiving feedback about the game, and will incorporate player feedback into future updates. Being a Beta, Red Dead Online is still very malleable, meaning upcoming changes in the next few months could radically alter the player experience.

Currently, it seems like a radical alteration is what the game desperately needs. Following feedback about how prevalent griefing is in the game, Rockstar has put together a selection of systems intended to reduce the practice as much as possible. But if anything, the update catered to griefers.

The proximity-based blip system has backfired, with players trying to protect themselves against griefers having their blips turn red and becoming indicated at longer range.

The reworked parleying system is also counterintuitive as it now requires longer waiting times and ends up being a nuisance not only for the griefers, but for the griefed as well.

Additionally, alongside all of these anti-griefing measures, as part of the new daily challenge system, Rockstar has added challenges which practically task players to grief - such as to get 3 headshots on other players.

While honorable players would relegate the completion of such challenges to PvP modes, the reality is that most will just go off to shoot any player in the head in freeroam. A quick and easy solution would be to only tally the shots for the challenge when done in a PvP mode.

Beyond this, hunting challenges now provide even less of a reward than they did before.

Another issue with the Daily Challenge system is that it incorporates content not yet released. Some challenges task players with getting a number of kills with a weapon not yet available, and Xbox players see challenges with gear requirements that are still timed exclusive on the PS4. These impossible challenges can break the streaks players need to keep up in order to earn valuable bonuses.

All of these are valid concerns.

Considering how long Grand Theft Auto Online has combated griefers with all kinds of systems unsuccessfully, it was to be expected that things wouldn't be smooth on day-one, but Red Dead Online is a much slower, less dynamic experience where curtailing griefing should be an easier task. Many comments echo similar sentiments, saying that Red Dead Redemption 2 is fantastic, but currently Red Dead Online isn't worth playing.

Hopefully in the coming weeks and months, Rockstar will be able to work player feedback into updates and hammer out these issues.

They are still in beta so they aren't dying. Most gamers just aren't used to playing beta games since it is more common on PC. They will get over it and come back once the game is out of beta. I could put money on that.

Wonder if this is true. My brother who is a hard core gamer and good at RDR2 hates the game online since the update. He said the map seemed empty now.  I said he hated it because he couldn't hunt down and grief people as easy now because they didn't show up on the map.   For me (not very good at the game), I've found it easier to fish, hunt, and just roam around now since the update.

Is this true do you think?  For the hard core, good players, the update had spoiled it, but for the players like me who will rarely win a gunfight, the game online is better now?

Even though I'm a noob at online gaming, I can't think why they can't just have two separate lobbies. One for anything goes, the other for a more passive mode. That way you can choose when you join what kind of play you want that day.

Exactly, I chuckle at all the rage quitting because of changes to a beta.

I wonder... I see lots of complaints about the new update. But how many have offered suggestions on how to improve things through the Rockstar feedback site? I don’t mean having sent a message along the lines of ‘your update sux! You nerfed hunting and made a kill tax. I quit!’... but an actual suggestion on how you think the system should be changed or improved?

I bet you the number is pretty low...at least the number of well articulated suggestions.

If R* is only relying on comments on their website, they might want to re-think their strategy.  They need people to be scouring the internet (reddit and fan sites)  looking for common complaints and recommendations. They did not need to set up that feedback system as a much better one already exists.  I would scrap the feedback system and simply spend the time on the internet.  There's a ton of brutally honest opinions right at the very fingertips.

Believe me. They have employees who are responsible for monitoring social media sites like Reddit, Twitter, fan forums, etc. and not just what is gathered on their feedback website. Many companies do this although not all will openly interact with consumers on them.

They are also looking at gameplay data and other sources of information. .....but then they also have their own experience and goals in mind for the game that drive some of their decisions.

Any of y'all notice how easily it is to become overweight in the game now? Before it was near impossible to not be underweight, now most of my friends characters are thicc bois and girls (except me cuz I'm more worried about the ring than the core).

So when I first got the update I noticed that all my outfits were gone... So I went and bought new stuff and made all new outfits and save them I had three outfits saved... Then when I login the next time the only one I have is the one I'm wearing the other ones are gone and a lot of the clothing that I bought was gone... I spent a lot of money and time to get those outfits and they're just gone! Does anybody else have this issue?

I noticed my saved outfits were gone but I still had everything I bought and could access it through my camp.  I re-saved my outfits and everything was fine.  However, the bug is there where the game will not remember what I was alst wearing so I still have the crappy outfit I started with.  I then have to changed my outfit at the start of each session on my horse.

If you have lost stuff you bought (especially with gold), make sure you submit a trouble ticket with R* and include details:

Same here. I was able to chonk out in like a few hours which is pretty hilarious. I like my dude being a porker. Not everyone was trim and fit back then. Leave my beer and bacon alone!
