Current TV Series Recommendations?

Thought I might ask you all here. I am looking for some new shows to get into. I haven't had much free time the last several months but now I am suddenly stuck with so much free time, I don't know what to do with myself! lol

Since I have no games I am currently invested in playing, I figured I would start up a new TV series or two. I prefer stuff that is rated high on IMDb.

Any recommendations?

There's lot's of great show's out there, even several great exclusives with the popular streaming services. I guess it depends on what like, so I would need more info. Hulu and Netflix have some great content and is a great place to start. You can find episodes from a lot of the older shows on You Tube.

Hogan's Heros is a classic with many episodes that can be found on You Tube. If It's Westerns that you crave, check out some of the Gunsmoke episodes.

For current day opitions, The Big Bang Theory, Blue Bloods, Deadwood, are some few more recent series.

If you want something more current then I would recommend Mr. Robot for a start. That is on the final season now so you can catch up and be able to watch how it ends before the season closes. My girl loves Black Mirror, if you like Twilight Zone style entertainment you can check that out..

SWAT just began it’s third season a few weeks ago and it’s good. SEAL Team is also really good. They air back to back on either Tuesday or Wednesday nights (I have no TV service right now to confirm which).

On the animated side, Bob’s Burgers is a winner in my book.

Something about that show, I just love.

Some other good adult toons:

  • Rick & Morty (ignore the fanbase)
  • Archer
  • Disenchantment (Netflix series, basically Futurama animation style but gets mixed reviews)
  • The Venture Bros.

Archer actually had a crossover episode with Bob’s Burgers, but only Linda was voiced in it since I guess the actors for Louise, Gene (who is awesome, BTW), and Tina were’t available. I’d always hoped they’d do another, but with how Archer has a different theme every season now, I don’t think it’s likely.

The last season will be out next year and they are going back to how it was originally for the final season. I don't want to give out spoilers but I will be happy about this. I wasn't a bit fan of the "slight spin offs". I did love this crossover episode though. I forgot that the voice actor did both Bob and Archer.

I didn't care much for Dreamland, but I really liked Danger Island and 1999. I didn't know about it being renewed another season, though. I'd read that Reed was "open" to it, but that was it.

I'll look into it. I heard of it but never actually looked into what it was about.

Not a fan, never cared for the show.

Watched it all and loved it. Wish they did more seasons.

I have heard great things but never actually sat down and watched the first episode, I shall give it a try.

Not a fan of this one. I watched the first episode and couldn't get in to it.

Yeah, SWAT has a particularly good cast, too. Shemar Moore, Kenny Johnson, Alex Russell, and Jay Harrington, off the top of my head.

I hope it gets a nice long run like the Hawaii Five-O remake series, which I admittedly thought would never reach beyond two seasons but has now been on for 10+ years now.

My brother recently got me into SWAT and I didn't think I would end up liking it particularly because I am not a fan of other shows in a similar genre like Hawaii Five-O but I have to admit, I got hooked by the 3rd episode.

I heard you either love it or hate it so not a problem. It took me a few episodes to really start enjoying it because I kept comparing it to Futurama.

Danger Island to me had the most humor in it of the three. Dreamland even lost some rating. A lot of episodes were not as highly rated  and I can understand why.

If you have Netflix or other streaming service, for a western, I'd recommend Hell on Wheels.  It ran for 5 seasons, and was pretty decent for a TV series.

Edit to add I realized that may not be current enough. For a non-western my wife has got me really into watching "The Blacklist" I really enjoy the main character. (But I find it hard not to like James Spader in anything)

Final Space!! How could this one be forgotten!? I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea but they did a great job at the first 2 seasons.

Ya know, I actually haven't watched that yet and I have been meaning to. I'll let you know what I think after I watch the first few episodes. I tend to give any cartoon or series 3 full episodes before I decide to either keep watching or can it.

Are there any shows that started this year that have been getting good reviews?

The only new-for-2019 show I've seen so far is Batwoman. Haven't bothered with reviews, but I've been enjoying it. Not sure if it's your cup of tea though.

I started watching Bojack Horseman. I thought it was going to be stupid but the animal related puns and jokes are quite funny. It is well written too for what it is. If anyone was considering watching it, give it a try. Pretty funny for a newish adult toon.

I heard good things about it but it put me off cause it was a Netflix original. Anything that has that label on it anymore tends to be too woke washed. Though the other one I mentioned seems fine... Maybe I should give it a try.
