In the story game, I actually jumped on ones back and rode it on a couple missions, with my horse trailing, and it was fun as hell. Stamina all day long but if you jumped off after shooting game he might just take off on you. Another occasion hitched him in town and came out of the gun shop to see him on a dead run for the hills, lol. I think I earned an as*-master badge 😁 I might even do it again on my next run through the game3 points

More information on how to block someone follows also... Well, not wanting to leave anything to chance, I called US Sony myself 1-800-345-7669. I hadn't done it before because I figured I'd have a long wait time. Surprisingly, I did not. The person I spoke with said that once I block a person, we would no longer be able to see or communicate with one another. I then specifically mentioned Red Dead 2 Online lobbies and told her of the problems that some of us are having with griefers. I then specifically asked if I block someone, would that prevent us from being in the same game lobby. She said yes without missing a beat. That's the best thing I've heard about this situation so far, even counting information from Rockstar. About blocking--well, I have done it this way. Because I don't want to stop my gameplay once I get going, I take down the name of whomever has griefed me (you know, it appears in that picture after someone murders you). At the end of last night's session, where I only played quick roam missions, I had four names of players that had popped me when I was standing there, spawning in and out as I went from mission to mission. I had also gathered names of griefers from a few friends that I trust, so I was looking at a list of about 30 people. I had to be at a computer for a time this morning, so logged into my Playstation account on one of the browser windows. Across the top menu on-screen is the word Friends. Select that and it takes you to a search bar. I typed the person's name in. His info popped up. I selected it. There are a few options there but there is also a little box under their name with three periods/dots in it. I selected the box. The option to Block the person is there. Of course, with all of the people playing the game, this is only a small step. But, for me, it's more than what Rockstar is doing at this point and I feel a little better knowing it shouldn't be the same griefer killing me in multiple sessions. I'm still hoping for separate PvE and PvEvP servers.2 points

As I am so bad at this game, but I love the game, I've decided not to try and beat people in gunfights anymore...Now I'm going to strap dynamite around my waist and just run at them.1 point

You're safe from being killed, that's it. One time some jerk lassoed me while I was at my campfire crafting. You can set it so that only you or your posse members(if you wish), can ride your horse.1 point

If you're not terribly worried about speed and stamina, there turkoman is the best option. It's great in a shootout, doesn't spook and fight you in my experience. I use the silver turkoman when I'm fighting at night because I blend in very well. I do the same with the brown foxtrotter and green/black clothes. But I generally use my silver dapple foxtrotter for most things as my play style is to be very mobile, although she sticks out like a sore thumb. It's what I used in SP. As far as temperament, they are almost even with the turk winning out. Although, I sometimes feel it varies. Because my horse will follow me everywhere even if it puts her in danger. Where as my friend's horse is hard headed lol. I am not fond of the Arabians at all. Although their stats are pretty on paper, the temperament kills it for me. I have literally ran down cougars and gators with the turk. I have noticed, as far as "personality", the Turks are very.... sassy? Lol. The Foxes are more chill. Arabians are like brat children tho. Currently have both coats of foxtrotter and the silver Turk.1 point

Well, it certainly would look elitist of me to tell folks, "no videos" when I share them all the time. It's all about intent, and embedding a video at least give the viewer the option to press play or not while at least getting some semblance of the length and content, whereas linking out to a video is like playing Russian Roulette. I despise external links (must be all that IT Security training at work), so I try to be mindful of that when I comment here--though sometimes I can't help myself.1 point

Piggybacking off of what @Kean_1 said, the forum does not allow promotion of private media distribution channels. However, this does not preclude you from sharing content from your channel on the forum provided: (1) the content shared fits within the context of a relevant topic of conversation (i.e. sharing a funny video of in-game activity as part of a conversation in a thread); (2) the content is embedded in your comment within the forum, and is not a link to the page directly (i.e. "clickbait"); (3) multiple topics are not formed for the specific purpose of sharing videos from said channel--it's one thing to want to share content, but blatantly circumventing the rules will not be tolerated. I myself have shared videos that have been embedded from both my own YT content, and from other sources. There's no harm in that, provided you follow the guidelines above. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to any member of the moderation team via private message. Edit: one more tip--if you are sharing content or a video, specifically from youtube, please be mindful of using the "start at" feature provided by youtube's sharing function so that forum members don't have to sit through a five minute video to get to 30 seconds of content).1 point

I'm semi-retired myself and I'm at level 37 but the only time I typically play games is at night. Just can't bring myself to do it during the day. As weird as it sounds, I feel guilty if I do so I keep myself busy with other projects, etc. I think there are more of us on here in this age range than I realized. I actually spent some time at Thieves Landing(?) the other night. I ducked down in the wheelhouse of the docked boat and started shooting away. ....the law came and I shot some more. Now I know why some people do this in Saint Denis. It's a really easy way to get XP. The Lobo(?) gang kept spawning in so I kept shooting. Not one player ventured into the area the time I was there.1 point

I found a spot for this you won't have to watch for trains. Just north of St. Denis the train tracks split, the east track goes up to Annesbury, but the west track is unused as it dead ends. You can stand on that west track and fish all day if you want. Almost all of the Lake Sturgeon weigh at least this much. And you can catch them in the swamp at Lagras with the lake or swamp lures.1 point

Isn't it only cosmetic in story mode as well? I don't recall that doing anything for me. Never noticed, but I never really bothered with that feature.1 point

I don't think we on Xbox can block anyone. However I have reported a bunch of griefers. And I think I am seeing the result: I had just entered a server and spawned the other night and notice some gamertags in the list were red. I hadn't had interaction with anyone yet and surmised they may have been griefers I reported. I hope so. I was able to choose to ignore or annihilate them1 point

SAFETY IN NUMBERS Posse! RDO is to bring players together and I'm guilty of playing solo way too much. I bought a large camp and created a posse. While I've never had more than two other riders with me, I think griefers pause before randomly attacking. The drawback is that I play at strange hours because I'm a night owl and because of that, changed the settings to open posse one night. What happened? Some guy joined and it turns out he was a griefer's griefer 😡 I'm retired and have all the time in the world to play. I just haven't done the time grinding and in truth need skills. I think I just hit level 26. IMHO it would be great if high level players--especially from this forum--would join our [my!] puny little posses. Perhaps those high-level players could find new satisfaction in the game eliminating the griefers that stifle lower players' progress negating the rewards from hours of hunting. Grateful shout out to @BurbonChaser who has help me understand opportunities I have been missing, especially how to make the game more profitable.1 point

Honestly I'm level 101 but I could have easily been 20-40 levels higher at least if I gave crap at all about grinding and ruining the whole experience. Ive gone on 4 hour hunting trips and lead my horse for over an hour before just so that when other players encounter me, I appear to be real, or at least my character is behaving semi-real. Met a lot of cool people just by being the one person who doesn't gun you down as soon as I see you. At least until I see a gun raise, then I mow you down like the sad little bastard you are. I agree with you guys also, I only use explosive ammo if someone kills me with it 1st. (Sometimes I get the feeling that these guys get surprised when I kill them with it as if they think if I had it then why wouldn't I have used it earlier since its just me vs 2, 3 , or 4 member posses. )1 point

It seems to work in real life for people, not sure if it would online though. If you show me how to do it I'll do the same In any case if you want to get better at shooting people, I suggest trying to go on the rooftop in Saint Denis or other spots (check the net) and start practicing headshots and other methods for killing. In the current state of the game it basically comes down to pressing the auto lock and flick the right stick quickly in the direction of the opponents head and shoot. About 75% of most encounters are who gets the first hit in anyway. I am very average in shooting, but still manage to kill quite a few people. It takes a bit of practice though.1 point

OP might state that the topic isn't about griefing, however free aim and private lobbies are basically 2 methods wanted by a majority of people only for that specific reason - To stop other people from being party poopers. I am all for these things, however I am also for some sort of measures against these party poopers in the public lobbies. It needs a change, griefers should be punished for just randomly opening fire on a player. My major annoyance with the RDO Beta is that I truly do not see improvements to basic faults still in the game (lvl1 bonding bug since day1, the fact that if you sell or craft a lot of things the server cannot cope / animals and npc corpses that disappear in front of your nose after just being shot, the stupid camp movement / major stranger mission startup delay and the list goes on. In stead they focus on nerfing economy and adding PVP mode(s). As Bropollo said the free roam content is really minimal, the gameworld is pretty empty and unless you really start roleplaying and e.g. start a barfight or other stuff like that, the game is at a point that there is not much incentive to keep playing with dedication. The camp is pretty useless, the clothing options get boring, why would you want to hijack a train if not for a bit of fun. As soon as a majority of players reach lvl 80+ there is really not much else to do besides getting more stuff you actually do not need. The beta should be there to fix things and I do not feel this is happening at all.1 point

Historically, the last two "official" online game communities I've been a part of have devolved into cesspits of negative energy. It's one thing to have developers and people who work on the game actively engage the community, but not everyone is suited to handle communicating with "the public" or "the customer". That's where a lot of companies go wrong in that they not only allow, but encourage team members to answer on behalf of the company in an official capacity, when in reality they're irrefutably better off letting media professionals or community engagement specialists manage the process with limited, tightly controlled access to team members who actively work on a title. That's not to say that team members unilaterally incapable of interacting with the public, but the company stands to gain very little from the exposure and risk they create by allowing employees unfiltered access to interact with the customer base. In a case like R* and RDR2, the game has such an enormous install base that there isn't really much to gain by having an official community presence. By keeping official communication isolated to select gaming journalists, news outlets, and offical press releases, R* limits their exposure to potentially damaging communications by employees who aren't trained on how to effectively communicate with the public. Branding is VERY important in the modern culture. People get attached to brands and develop loyalty as a consumer, so it's imperative that a company find an effective way to not only obtain but RETAIN customers. An official online forum for specific games creates too much exposure to liability to be an asset worth pouring time and resources into, especially at the level that R* is at, when hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake. People here in the US seem to inaccurately adhere to the notion that the First Amendment, guaranteeing free speech, applies to the private sector. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Amendment is there to prevent the government from creating laws to restrict speech. Private companies absolutely retain the right to monitor employee activity both in and outside the workplace as a condition to employment. One of the biggest mistakes I see people make (particularly younger people) is the inability to segregate workplace and personal relationships in social media. I highly encourage everyone to maintain separate social media profiles for work and personal use, because you never know who is reading what you say/post online, and who may report what you're saying to your employer. Circling back to my original point, folks seem to forget that when they make comments in the public space (which includes online gaming communities), that their employer can be held accountable for their actions under the legal doctrine respondent superior . When employees participate in official communities of the companies they work for, it creates a very complicated situation for parties on all sides, so R* deciding to eschew an official online community (outside of the Rockstar Games Social Club) makes a lot of sense, especially from a legal and media management perspective. TL:DR; The most likely reason R* doesn't have an official online community is to limit their exposure in the event that an employee or agent says or does something stupid. And they really don't need one give the runaway financial success of their titles overall, and consumer brand loyalty.1 point

For me, it depends what I have to lose. If my horse is full of skins and carcasses, I'm a lot more protective. If I don't have any stuff to lose, I'm more prepared to give people the benefit of the doubt. I'd rather be killed (when I have nothing to lose) and then unleash righteous fury on the murderer (repeatedly and with extreme prejudice) than shoot first and kill an innocent guy, maybe turning them into a griefer due to the negative experience.1 point

Or how selective their witnessing seems to go. Recently riding and saw a stagecoach being robbed. I stop and walk up and the robbers start to challenge me,. Bad guys draw and fire. I draw and fire. I kill the bad guys. The person I just saved then takes off running and reports my crime. For heaven's sake, I just saved your life. At least give me a 5 minute headstart you little twerp. I didn't eve loot the bodies or rob the coach.1 point

Love the game but what amuses me most about this very subject is the amount of "witnesses" there seems to be IF you attack somebody in the remotest parts of the map. I have been in places where I haven't seen anybody for hours and along comes a stranger who seems to not like me, i try to defuse, he draws, I kill him and BAM...a witness to the crime pops up...kill him, BAM two more pop up...say wat?1 point

My gosh! I totally get it! It is SO insane to me how they let it pass. For example, one time, as I was leaving Saint Denis, Leymone raiders ambushed me. I ran to the nearest lawmen, expecting them to shoot the Leymone raiders. Instead, one of them got shot by one of the Leymone raiders. (They were aiming at me, but since I was behind the lawmen, he took the hit.) The lawmen instantly took his gun out and started shooting me. I did not have a weapon out or anything. I got wanted with assult. ??? Another time, I was in the bar in Valentine. I made the bartender mad. He started shooting at me. The sherriff ran in but he instead stood there and watched me get shot at. So I took out my lassoe and lassoed the bartender. Guess who got wanted with assult? Me. I just don't get how the devs made the police system and then went, yep this is fair. Thanks for letting me rant.1 point
