I think Rockstar makes relatively "short" games but like you said liquid, they rely on people immersing themselves and getting lost in the game just exploring. Plenty of games old and new can be done pretty fast. I don't mind this though. I like having things to do on the side of a main mission as well as it builds character to the actual characters and interactions in the game. Coming off of RDR with John Marston, they will have a hard time topping that for me. I was really invested in a few of the characters throughout the game. My friend and I were thinking about making a day of it and getting the game in the afternoon then picking up some pizza later at night and just enjoying ourselves. He is going to bring his console over and we will put both my TVs side by side. For that reason it'll have to be business as usual so probably just a later than normal gaming session that night with the weekend getting more focus on it. Not sure how long that will last as my one friend has a habit of going too fast through games and everyone else gets pissed.
